Even though my brother-in-law and I both live out of state we are seriously thinking of buying Zips season tickets for next year. So I went on the web site and there is a giant ad on GoZips.com to buy season tickets. When you click on it ANYWHERE it takes you to a broken ticketmaster link. I tried briefly to find them there but could not after a few minutes of searching so I went back on GoZips and finally found another way to look for season tickets. When I tried to see where the tickets were, it gave me a section number but no idea on where the section was other than a vague "color" map. They could have been anywhere in that color map. That was on a crappy small map (that you could just barely see the sections let alone section details) that said to click on it to see a larger map. I assumed that might show the sections/row in more detail but no, it was just a slightly larger version of the same crappy map. And even though its not relevant, there is a link to show the same bad map through the name "Inficision Stadium". We use a site where they can't even spell our name right? I also tried to call a few weeks ago instead of doing it this way and simply got a recording. No one has called me back, so I figured I'd try it via the web.If fans like me who actually give a damn about the program get this frustrated trying to get tickets how in the world is the "average" fan going to feel about this ticket buying experience? Do we always have to do things second rate? :mad_flame:

GoZips.com is not anywhere near the quality that it needs to be. I don't know who's in charge of maintaining and improving the website, but my guess would be sports marketing. What needs to happen is for GoZips.com to have it's own division within the athletic department, called "electronic promotions" or something. This is the internet age, and your website should be the primary way of connecting with whomever it is you're trying to sell things to. I think UA promotions is stuck in the old business model of face-to-face business transactions, kind of like big retail stores that are complaining about how they're suffering from some kind of economic downturn while websites like amazon.com are reporting their best holiday seasons ever. The writing is on the wall. It's tme for the athletic department (and the university) to invest more into their websites and less into other, old-fashioned forms of communication (like billboards, unless they have the website printed on them).

Talk about frustrating. There's really no excuse for that. Someone in the sports marketing department has to be aware of this and yet it goes unfixed. If this was a private enterprise where people had to be answerable for profit/loss those season tickets would be much easier to buy.

Another bitch about sports marketing. Who thought up the idea that if you don't buy season tickets for basketball you have to wait until just a couple of weeks before the game to buy single tickets?

FWIW, when I bought season tix last Summer it was done as a package for 2008 and 2009 combined. The process included buying online and then talking to someone on the telephone to ensure that I had seats next to another buyer who was doing the same. My understanding (could be wrong) was that at some point in the Spring or Summer, after people have bought packages and construction is at an appropriate stage, there will be a day when we will be invited to the stadium to choose our actual seats. It's been several months since I thought about the process so I may be getting some of this wrong.Whatever the process turns out to be, the prospective buyer experience should be MUCH better than what you went through MDZip. The only excuse I can offer is that it's break time and some of the phones that are supposed to be staffed to help you and answer questions are empty with the students and staff being away. Please stick with it, because the new stadium should be worth the trouble!GO ZIPS!GO CITY OF AKRON!GO OBC!SeeTeeZip

I'm not sure, but I think this may only be the case for "priority reserve" seating. That sure does suck that it's such a runaround to purchase something for which UA should be rolling out the red carpet.

There's a thread on here somewhere...and i don't want to search for it.Priority Reserved and Reserved seat season ticket holders will be invited to a "select a seat" day sometime around May of 2009. This was directly from the head of ticket sales at the U. Those who bought the combo of 08 AND 09 will have priority over those that just by 09.

I know that today, we strive to make as little immediate communication with another human being as possible. I have never had a problem getting my season tickets, or any tickets for that matter. I simply call 1-888-GoAkron during their hours and talk to a real person....been doing it for the past 10 years now. If you had trouble a few weeks ago getting anyone on the phone, congratulations, you now understand what I mean when I say academia is loosely connected to the real world. It was probably the beginning of winter break or something and do you really expect someone to step up and man the ticket office when school is out? I'll bet if you pick up the phone tomorrow and call again, you'll get someone. If not, try calling again another time, you've got pleanty of time to get your tickets.

I'm not actually worried about getting the tickets, I'm sure at some point I will be able to, there's plenty of time. My point was that a number of people do rely on the web to do their normal transactions (whether that's shopping, banking or whatever), especially those that aren't local and the Zips web site advertised availability and didn't come close to delivering. I wasn't worried about my personal experience but as the program as a whole. As I said if someone like me who actually cares about the program gets frustrated, what about the only casually interested fan. Guaranteed that problems like this can translate into real losses (read less tickets sold) so for something like this, "academia" had best get in touch with the real world. After all, those are their real customers. The impression it gives of the program is definitely "small time".

I think the bottom line here is that although academia is indeed loosely connected to reality in many aspects, the sale of these tickets is to the university's benefit and one would think they would make ticket sales more accessible regardless of the holidays. You're trying to tell me that with the economy the way it is now the university can't find somebody willing to answer a phone or manage a website??

and thank god for that...there are so many idiots in the world that i would rather do things easy and on the internet so i dont have to deal with morons.(sorry i just got back from subway in fairlawn where they forgot to tell me until i went to pay that their credit card machine was down. I had $4.90 to my name in cash and change they still would not sell my sub. Needless to say i dont have much confidence in people running things right now.)

Apparently not. I absolutely agree that if you are trying to sell something, you should go out of your way to make it as easy as possible to take the money people are trying to give you. I think we all agree that this is one of the many areas of the AD that could use improvement.

There are a lot of idiots out there, and, unfortunately, most of them have jobs. If you don't mind waiting around for an idiot to get back with you and then playing tag with the idiot, then this approach works great. I prefer to get the idiot on the phone and just get it over with. The pain may be more accute, but at least it's over quick.

Sorry, the link worked for an hour this morning. I copied it from the gozips.com ticket page. Ticketmaster must change this code regularly for some reason. This afternoon the link is: https://oss.ticketmaster.com/html/pack_sear...ed982374d3bb048
