johnnyzip84
Posted by Diamond Jim Brady 10:51 PM, 01/29/2009Renew the Penn State - Pitt rivalry...and stick it to those jagoffs that made the mistake of going to Pitt in the first place. Report abuse Sign in to report abuse Select a username to report abuse Confirm your registration to report abuse Posted by cdk104 11:41 PM, 01/29/2009Here's the problem, PSU signs home-home contracts with teams 5-7 years in advance, with the hopes that Syracuse would still be competitive. And remember that Akron was beat PSU in Happy Valley about 8-10 years ago, so no Nittany Lions fan can forget that. But, the problem is that you look at Oklahoma and their schedule boasts games against three non-conference, solid bowl teams from '08 - Tulsa, BYU and Miami. Florida plays in the brutal SEC, but still schedules FSU every year (but does get away with Charleston Southern, Florida International and Troy) and Alabama has North Texas, UT-Chattanooga and Florida International as well, but does bring in VA Tech. So, my logic is that PSU screwed up and if they're going to have two cream puffs in a down year, they still need to face one marquee bowl-qualifying, out-of-conference team. Look at Ohio State this year - Navy and USC before having Toledo and New Mexico State, decent programs, not Syracuse and Temple! It's just not good and I'm really disappointed to see it all to be honestI happened to read some of the comments on the article. One of the posters gives me a humorous reminder of my Western PA youth, while another is obviously confusing us with Toledo, when Pinkel's squad embarrassed JoePa 23-6 a few years back. skip-zip
Am I reading that right? This poster thinks Akron beat Penn State 8-10 years ago? Are they referring to the 1999 game where we got absolutely trounced by a very high ranked PSU team?

skip-zip
Thanks guys. Other than the 2006 game, where we made sort-of a game out of it, I know we've been beaten badly by them every time.
bigham78
Pitt fans are full of They're always posting crap about Penn St.The rivarly will not be renewed until Pitt is willing to share revenues for Penn St coming to Pitt and having over 30,000 fans at Heinz Field.Pitt doesn't draw jack and never has. But, they expect to pay Penn St bare mininum for PSU having half the fans in soldout home game. That's why Penn St doesn't renew the rivarly. Not because they're ducking a team they've beaten 50-42 lifetime and 7 out of the last 8 games they've played.
ZachTheZip
I really can't stand Pitt fans, but that's a topic for another discussion. What I want to know is what our 6th home game will be. We're sitting at 11 official games (@ Penn State, Indiana, @ Syracuse, and 8 MAC games.
Captain Kangaroo
I think we'll give Penn State a very good game this September. The 70-24 Lee Owens beatdowns will have the same effect on this year's Penn State football game as Toledo's basketball victories over Dan Hipsher affected our game against the Rockets Wednesday. Buckzip
Didn't PSU beat Akron 81-0 back in the 90's?Sorry guys, but this game will be over by halftime. Clark is a stud QB and they will be fired up for the first game of the season.

But being this early, they will be fired up.I have been optimistic in the past and have ALWAYS been let down by this team.Just because you are a fan doesn't mean you have to be optimistic. That is being a homer.I am a Browns fan too, but I have no problem being honest and saying that organization sucks.
