Adreian Payne

Recommended Posts

Rasors blog today http://www.ohiomm.com/blogs/zips/2009/02/z...ve-star-center/ says we are looking at another highly touted center prospect for the class of 2010. Adreian Payne out of Dayton Jefferson HS. He's got offers from all the big Ohio basketball schools (OSU, Dayton, Xavier, Cincy) plust Kentucky, Pittsburgh, Tennessee and West Virginia. Sounds like this would be another heck of a land if we are indeed in the running for him. I wonder if he could play PF for us? Could you imagine having a kid like this alongside Zeke in our frontcourt? It would be a total nightmare for the rest of the MAC.

Definitely awesome. This illustrates why, as a Zips's fan, I think it'd be a bad move to join the Big East. A player like Zeke, added to the talent currently on the roster, can make us THE power in the MAC. Add this guy and we'd be untouchable. In the Big East we'd be just another contender. I'd much rather become the next Boise State of the WAC, Memphis of C-USA, Butler of the Horizon League or Xavier of the A-10. (Boise State of the WAC in football, of course, but you know what I'm saying.)

Rasor seems to think we are more than just a token competitor for this kids services. From what I've read of him, if KD could land this kid it would be a HUGE coup. Teams like Kentucky, Xavier, Dayton and Cincinnati are all over him and many at OSU are looking at him as the defining piece of their 2010 recruiting efforts. Apparently the kid does play some PF as well as C. He's got a freakishly long wingspan, is a great leaper and plays well at both ends of the floor.

Scout.com doesn't even show Akron as a possibility for Payne. My guess is that this is because so many schools are interested in him that they didn't have the room, but what do I know? After Payne, the highest ranked uncommited 2010 player in Ohio according to Scout is PF Craig Sealy. Does anybody know if the Zips are showing any interest in him? He is actually out of my high school so that would be kinda sweet for me personally if he ended up playing his college ball at the JAR.
