AwesomeDude
Throughout this year the Rowdies have been in the ear of every coach. Last night was no different. Mr. Coles heard everything you could think of from the south side of the court. Such as asking if he was wearing a new shirt or if its been the same one for the last century, wondering why he looks so much like Doc Brown from Back to the Future, to even asking if miami had any magic left from a few years ago (still hurts, i know.....sorry)(and they did). When it was all said and done the zips had won and charlie went back to the locker room with his team. I thought that was the end of it but i was mistaken. Mr. Coles came back out to do the radio interview with the miami broadcast team and some of the Rowdies were still standing around chatting about the game. Mr. Coles came up to each one of us and shook our hands and told us that we make the road trips to akron fun for him and his team. He then went to our big pimpin, Ian Tayek, and told him that when they were watching the game film they watched him to see how the rowdies react to certain situations. Charlie Coles is a class act, and a very respectable man. The Rowdies have nothing but respect for him. Just thought everyone here should know what a great man he is. zen
Obviously the man is not insecure about himself.A lesser man would take the rowdies personally.
tbozeglav
so he studies the game footage to not only learn about the zips, but to also learn about the rowdies?? interesting.... very interesting.
Captain Kangaroo
He's a cool guy...but if I were a Miami fan I'd be looking forward to his long and healthy retirement. Miami's "style" is tough enough to watch 2-3 times per season. I couldn't imagine doing it 33 times.
johnnyzip84
What's easy to forget (for me anyway) when he (Charlie) and KD have these defensive wars, is that they were both former HC's at CMU. It's hard not to like and respect a guy like him, with the way he keeps going after all of the health issues he's endured.
Z.I.P.
He then went to our big pimpin, Ian Tayek, and told him that when they were watching the game film they watched him to see how the rowdies react to certain situations. From what I hear, coach John Bluem from the Columbus State Sucknuts is spending his entire off-season trying to develop a plan to keep the ball away from the Rowdies end of the field. See you at Lee Jackson in '09 coach.
Dave in Green
I saw CC smile and wave to the Rowdies just before the start of the game. I thought at the time that he is a class act, and I'm glad to hear how he treated the Rowdies after the game confirms my thoughts. Very cool. zip37
There is no finer coach or person in the NCAA [except KD] and unlike Cap't Roo. I could wach a defensive battle between CC & KD all the time. Wyatt Webb, Huggins & now KD all demanded great defense and I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm with 37 ..The games against Miami demand 40 minutes of concentration and effort. They're defensive battles .. and I look forward to them every year .. Even when Hip had bad teams .. that game was usually a good one.Last night was awesome.
Bleacher Bum
Chuck Coles is the best. He and WITHERSPOON! are my two favorite coaches to harass. Dakich was fun too, but that's because he took everything so seriously.
Dr Z
While I can respect Charlie, I can't stand to watch Miami, it's like watching soccer. No offense soccer fans.Miami and CMU set basketball back 50 years. I hope to gawd we don't play either at the Q.

skip-zip
I'm with you Dr. Z. To me, as a fan, I find Miami games pretty boring. They are also very difficult games to get the crowd into since whenever there might be a exciting play that gets people on their feet, the next possession lasts so long that everyone is sitting down again. It's pretty hard to get into, unless the game is close enough at the end.
Captain Kangaroo
I'll clarify one thing - The Zips played the best defense I've seen at the JAR in several years Wednesday night. Maybe the best I've ever seen. Two or three times the Zips made silly turnovers, and each time the Zips immediately got back on D and made stops. Once or twice they forced shot clock violations! On breakaways when Miami should have had easy buckets!?I love great D as much as anyone. But Miami's overall style of play and team make up is just tough to get excited about. Coles is probably doing the best with what he's got...maybe they're even overachieving...but I just don't like their team and style.

The long half court defensive stands along with the fast break offensive runs?
Captain Kangaroo
well is it safe to say that the Zips under KD can handle both styles? The long half court defensive stands along with the fast break offensive runs?Yes. Just because you play great D doesn't mean you have to play "Charlie Coles Style." Give me KD, and our team any day over Coles and what Miami's got.
zippy5
tough for the crowd to get into?I would argue that the Miami game was the loudest the crowd, and especially the Rowdies have been all year.It was a great environment, with some great defense, IMO. It usually seems to bring the fans into the place and gets them loud.
RACER
the biggest problem with the way miami plays is if they get down late in the game.once you have them down late in the game they are out of their element.you saw what happened witht akron.once you get the lead (late in the game)they have trouble playing from behind. skip-zip
The only thing that will be missing in the OU game is that Bubba won't be in the house. That got everyone fired up. And that game last year would have to be one of my top-5 games I have ever seen at the JAR.
The Hip Zip
The only thing that will be missing in the OU game is that Bubba won't be in the house. That got everyone fired up. And that game last year would have to be one of my top-5 games I have ever seen at the JAR.I first introduced myself to Charlie about 7-8 years ago on the elevator at the Q and usually see him about twice a year. To this day, he still remembers me and gives me a smile or a wink when we sit behind the Redhawks bench at the Jar. Great man with a great mind, I could listen to his stories for hours.
