Spring Football - What's the deal?

Some comments on the article. I always try to take what JD says with a grain of salt. I should have known better at the beginning of last season, but I thought we would come out better against PSU. Since then, I try not to look too much into it.

I guess I'm suprised to hear that JD comments on how Biggs continues getting better. He was good last year, we'll need him at his best this year. In addition to Biggs, no mention about the QB's. Is Jabari still #1? I'm curious, sounded like Luke had the job in the bag from all the talk last season. If Luke and Jabari are that close, does Jabari go to WR to help out in that position?

First of all with JD, it's the job of the head coach to remain positive and encouraging. What was he supposed to say last spring, "yeah, well, we really suck right now and we're going to go into Penn State and get our asses handed to us". What kind of message would that have sent to the team??

As for the QB's, from everything I've heard, Getsy has pretty well solidified his starting QB role and is taking a majority of the reps with the first string. I don't know what the plans for Arthur are in terms of a switch to WR.

Yea, I understand. How are you supposed to sell season tickets when the great new head coach tells you that your team will suck. I just wish I could get a better read on how the team will come out this year. Who's going to the spring game? I can't make it but I'm hoping to get some good info here.

Coming from JD when asked about the progress of spring ball: "Not good".

I got to talk to JD at the Lizard during the coaches show last week. More impressed every time I see him. The way he talked, I had the feeling that he is not a 2 yr type guy, but will see the program mature. There are just so many unknowns right now. Who steps up to keep this team moving forward over the summer?

I won't make a prediction on the upcoming season but I will make a moderate term prediction Quote: By the time JD moves on (shudder!) the Zips will nit be rebuilding, we

will be reloding. Unquote

With ball ammunition, LOCK AND LOAD. :D

If that is the case, maybe he won't move on.

The money will be too great. The most he will probably ever make at Akron is $350,000 per year. He could make a minimum $700,000 per year at a bigger conference. Akron will not have the money to pay him.

This may be a month late, but I never saw anyone else post it here.

I can't believe they wrote losing a talent like Frye will be a bit of a concern. You Think?! What a stupid comment. They also have Can't placed one spot above the Zips.

http://www.collegefootballnews.com/2005/Sp...nglooks_MAC.htm

Akron Spring practice starts March 15, Spring Game April 16

What needs working on ... Running the ball. The passing game will also be a bit of a concern without a talent like Charlie Frye at quarterback so there has to be more than 97 yards per game on the ground to keep the offense moving. New running back coach Bill Biel will have his work cut out for him.

The most important position to watch is ... Quarterback and offensive line. It's hard to immediately replace a talent like Frye, but big, strong sophomore-to-be John Ferguson will give it a try. The biggest issue is on the offensive line losing four starters. Don't expect that running game to rock right away.

Spring attitude... Try to regroup in a serious hurry. This is still a good enough team to hope for a shot at the MAC title helped by losing Marshall from the East, but there's now Bowling Green to deal with. A win over Miami would mean almost everything, but it's going to take a while to reload on offense.
