Stadium Update - A Little Info

Recommended Posts

Spend a day walking around Jackson Field and you pick up all sorts of stuff...

As previously noted on this board, an architect has been selected to draw-up the new stadium. It is not the one that was seen in the local newcasts a few months ago.

30k total seating

Grass seating in the endzone will happen

The Odd Corner will likely need to find a new place to peddle it's Grateful Dead bandanas and skull bongs

Expect an official announcement in the fall. The architect needs about 6 months to put everything together.

If the bricks cost $20, then we only need to sell 750,000 bricks to pay for the stadium! What do these kind of bricks typically go for? I really have no idea but I would guess a LOT more than $20. Probably more like $100 or $200 a brick. My high school used to hold Bingo to pay for new athletic stuff. I'll swing by Robs and play a few rounds of BINGO when I'm in town.

That's too small for D1A. Please give us at least as many hard seats as the Rubber Bowl. If not, then they need to leave provision for later expansion.

I don't know if it's too small. In the 10 years I've been following the Zips, I've seen 4 decent crowds (20,000+) at the Rubber Bowl. From about 1995 to 2003 I didn't see any decent crowds at the RB. There may have been a few, but I couldn't make every home game. It puts a damper on the atmosphere when there are so many empty seats. I would rather the stadium be a bit smaller to match the crowds. PLEASE don't make it look look like Can't, I mean a HS stadium! One thing I think is a necessity to avoid this is to have at least one closed end to a stadium. I also hope they plan for expansion. Once we are starting to consistently fill up the normal seating, start slowly expanding. Don't want to wait and deter people from coming to the games. Oh, and nothing is worse than a stadium that looks like it was pieced together. Though Peden was nice, the closed end of the stadium didn't quite seem to fit. They've (Proenza and Thomas) done a hell of a job so far so I'm confident they won't mess this up.

When the Pirates built PNC park, I bought my parents a brick (8" x 8") with their name on it for $65. It is behind the home plate gate.

My wife bought a normal house type brick for me for $50. To this day, I still have no idea where it is and rocket scientists working for the Pirates know where it is but they always forget to send out the map to me each time I ask.

I'm sure their forgetfulness is because they don't know where it is either. ;)

  • 4 weeks later...

My sources inside the Admin tell me that meetings have been takeing place in the last few weeks that indicate the stadium project is moving right along. All the property owners were brought in and the facilities/services people were told to be ready to staff and equip the new stadium for a fall 07 opening. What Dr. P wants, he makes happen! :thumb::cheers::screwks:

Why were "all the property owners brought in"? Is there some mutual agreement among them and the U. on acquiring their properties when the time is right?
