skip-zip
As I've said all along, I'm just glad I will always be there several hours early. We'll see how this all shakes out. I think anyone can say now that long walks and riding shuttles from downtown shouldn't be a big deal, and that they "do it at the big schools".....but.....there will be problems, and I'm sure some of those problems will put a damper on the whole experience for some people, and they may not come back. Of course, it's not what you want to happen while we are trying so hard to create a great experience for some first time fans who you hope will come back again and again. Of all the things that we lacked at the Rubber Bowl, I'm sure many people got spoiled by the convenience of parking your car quickly in a wide open field, and having a 5 minute walk to the entrance. How those people will react to a little inconvenience is anyone's guess. Let's just hope this whole thing comes together, and things run as efficiently as possible. Lots of tailgaiting, bars & restaurants filled, kids and adults throwing footballs around, cornhole galore, etc.

People will learn pretty quickly what works best for them...park & shuttle, park and stroll thru campus, arrive early & tailgate, etc. The biggest problem early on may be a traffic jam on Route 8 at the campus exits (if Rte. 8 thru traffic is impeded the whiners will be screaming bloody murder on ohio.com). People will learn to use Wolf Ledges or South Main instead. Slow traffic and having to walk will make people feel like they're attending an important event, which they are
ksu sucks
(if Rte. 8 thru traffic is impeded the whiners will be screaming bloody murder on ohio.com)Oh don't worry about them. They aren't going and neither is anyone else because the crime is so bad around campus. Oh, and also because the parking is so bad. And because tuition is too high. And because the city is ugly. And because the university is killing the area around campus. And because...well...you get the point.

uafan
A few years ago, this wouldn't matter, but now it does. Has anyone heard about handicap parking and seats? I couldn't climb the steps at the RB, and even with my rehab, I can't do any stadium seats. I hate it, but I need my handicap areas!

72 Roo
The bottom line is if we win the fans will come and bear the inconvenience of a long walk until they realize it is the price you pay when a lot of people want to see the product you put on the field. After a while the bitching will turn to pride in the Zips. the rest of the posters are damn right, this is the way it is at every big time D-1 program.I just hope the folks that are tailgating early will invite me in if I bring a few cold ones. Talking Zip football before a game at the Info, Lord I think I've died and gone to heaven. At lest there they know and the Zips will be . tbozeglav
There is something else to be said about the walk... hopefully once things settle in, businesses that are located along the major avenues people will be walking to the stadium will start creating their own addition to the atmosphere with Zips decorations, pregame parties... events like that. It'll make that walk from downtown a little more of an adventure than just a walk.
GP1
Parking discussions on this board always make me smile because it is IMHO a trivial matter yet it is taken so seriously. This is all we need to know about parking for UofA games. There will be enough. There is a lot of parking on campus and in Spicertown. Assuming 24,000 will drive to the games, only 12,000 spots are needed if you assume at least two people per car. Between commuters and Univeristy employees, there is typically enough parking during the day. All of it is well within walking distance. If you think about it, some spots only seem far away because you can't see the stadium from the lot (ie: the lots behind the Robs are only a five minute walk to the stadium yet it seems far). Has our society become so lazy that we can't walk five minutes to a game?.............probably, but I hold out hope.I would figure it out like this. Divide 24,000 by the average number of tickets sold per sale and you have a rough estimate of the number of spots necessary....probably a little more are necessary, but it is a good estimate. If that average is 3, then only 8,000 spots are necessary. 8,000 is probably close to the number of commuters and University employees that park each day. Some of you may think there needs to be a big marketing campaign, including billboards, about parking. Please don't start the thread. All the University needs to do is work with the local media on a story about where to park and walking distances from parking lots. Seems pretty easy to me. The ABJ has been doing a good job with the new stadium thus far and there is no reason to believe they wouldn't run a story like this as a public service matter. Now, go enjoy a game in a nice stadium and don't worry about parking.
