I wasted 10 minutes reading that thread...Did you think it was funny?I thought it was stark to me how mildly sullen and anti-climactic they were. They couldn't even get a real anti-Akron mojo going. The best they could muster was some flutter over "stupid marsupial"Others broke ranks and admitted that the writing was on the wall with how we have invested in improvements. In a way, it was somewhat heartening.

pretty much. Goes to show how much our campus improvements are really starting to show at other MAC schools. Kinda bummed at the lack of hate in that thread. I expected more puns, jokes, and insults, but like zen pointed out, theres just a growing sense of the fact that Akron is on its way up while everyone is stuck at sea level. Just one more of those times when you feel proud to be Zips fan.

Eh, I just found it funny in a train wreck kind of way.Edit: And as both of you said, it is kind of a sign that we're doing things right.

I find it interesting how each schools fans have an academic superiority complex, Akron included. The old "your school" degree is only good for a job at dominos thing. I also like the "Their a bunch of criminals" line too, seems to be new hot insult. I don't really care about what the fans from other schools think about our facilities, I just want to start consistently winning!

As much jealousy there was in that thread, there is also ignorance. To support the poster's argument he had to resort to stereotyping and guilt by association arguments. His own fellow posters called him out and warned that Akron was about to leave the rest of the MAC in the dust. I give credit those few posters who appreciate the transformation we are bringing to our total program and the MAC. We may not agree on all things, but they seen reasonable opponents. For those who don't know, athletics at OU is in the dumper. They are running a $600,000+ budget deficit that the president and AD have publicly stated must be made up within the department. How is that going to support growth? Their revenue is below the levels they need to support their programs and they are in real trouble. Send all the crap you want our way Bobcats. We are big enough to handle it as we watch you in our rear view mirror. Bye, Bye. I can't wait for October 10 :nutkick:

If that is going to happen, it definitely hasn't yet. I'm all for optimism, and you most definitely gotta like your chances when your investment and your climate is ripe.... but.... I can only hope for the day that we can actually say we left the rest of the MAC in the dust

There will be more of this from OU as well as other schools. There has been a lot of negative comments to some of the BJ stories about our campus and particularly our stadium. OU fans love to dump on Dambort. Why, because he is kicking their butts on a consistent basis. That is also the real reason why they still don't care for Marshall. Definitely jealousy. Not a big deal as far as I'm concerned. Just more evidence that Akron is slowly separating itself from the rest of the MAC and that is a good thing. We need to eventually get ourselves out of that crappy conference and move to one where we will be recognized nationally and will be able to compete at a higher level. The only negative that I have about our great stadium, is I wish it were built with an initial capacity of at least 45,000 because in order to move up, it will eventually need to be expanded. UA needs to eventually enclose the upper deck of the north endzone and add permanent seats to the lower deck of the south endzone. There will not be any problem selling those seats because the program will be improved and fans will come.

Hey at least it seemed like a few of the posters had some common sense and realized that Akron was taking steps in the right direction. But i dont understand the hatred between Akron and OU. Athens is a fun place and it would have been awesome to go to school there. The only thing is, their Athletic program is in shambles due to having an idiot President and some other factors. Everything else OU related is pretty cool though, i always seem to have a good time going down there for games or just to visit. Hell it's WAY better than Can't (and most MAC/Ohio campuses), and isn't that all we should care about?

I don't have a problem with OU.But if in-fact our program does increase it's success levels in the future, you might as well get used to a certain level of envy and contempt from your rivals. It just comes with the package along with respect and prestige.

You guys act like we've been dominating the MAC! We won our first BB championship las year and have NEVER dominated in football! Sure we're great in soccer and track, but I don't think "Akron" equates to domination in the minds of other MAC fans. I'm going to wait until we are truly dominating in a sport before I start talking about leaving the rest of the MAC behind!

http://www.bobcatattack.com/messageboard/t...ID=6&page=1This is so funny. I still don't get the whole academic superiority thing.
Look at any of the academic rankings lately? The new U.S. News & World Report places Akron in the lowest category ("Tier 4") and Ohio in Tier 1. Do you "get" that?
The only reason Akron is in Tier 4 is because we have open enrollment. you just opened up a can of worms with this one cause our programs are either on par with or far exceeds most others in the country. (Engineering, Music, and Law are the big ones)

That's interesting. Only one school in the MAC chose not to participate -- EMU. Akron did participate, and always has. In fact, virtually every school in the state took part. So 75% are boycotting, you say?Hmm.ps: Carnegie rankings (absolutely non-political) present the same basic position between the two schools. Akron is one of the three lowest rated schools in the MAC.

The boycott is not a complete boycott, but one where the schools choose not to fill out a certain section (the "reputation" section, or whatever it's called) where you rate schools by how "prestegious" they are within the academic community. It counts for 25% of the overall score. Stanford, who had lots to gain from something like that, is the school that organized the boycott.Anyway, I question the methodology of these ranking services. What is their criteria? They all exist to sell their own magazines.

I find that interesting because the Carnegie Foundation does not rank universities. They only provide a portrait of what the universities offer, and the level of research they do. The only organizations that rank schools are for-profit magazines like USNWR.

That's not entirely true. The National Research Council conducts an extremely thorough survey and ranking of universities and individual departments. They take several years of data into account, which is why they come out less than once a decade. The next rankings are due out this year or the next I believe. Here's a link to the last ones that came out in the 90s. Our OU compatriots might not like what they see.http://www.stat.tamu.edu/~jnewton/nrc_rankings/nrc1.htmlAkron--79Miami--82OU--86

Nice try, but if you read the introduction at the top of the file, it clearly states that those are rankings only of doctoral programs (not undergrad) and only in 41 categories, mostly sciences related. No business. No communications. No undergrad. There are over 100 doctoral program categories overall.
