UADavid
He already has surpassed other AD's in communicating to the fans.
ZachTheZip
I like that he's using Youtube. I hope this doesn't end up like lots of our past marketing efforts: used once then ignored.

He seems enthusiastic and knowledgeable, especially for a newbie to the Zips world. I can't wait to see a fresh set of ideas... come on MARKETING! tbozeglav
Not gonna lie, but using YouTube as a means to communicate with fans is a fantastic idea and I truly hope this is the beginning of much more to come. Probably the best thing he could have done within the week of being named the new AD was reach out to the fans, and he did just that. Im very interested to see how the next couple weeks will go and what will happen in the marketing area. Now if we could just get that camera lens cleaned.... zipseuph
good to see him reaching out to the "common man" if you would. gives everyone a feeling of involvement and unity. puts him on the stage with everyone and jot just the big boys. I think this guy needs a good ole nick name. from now on I'm just gonna call him buddy
ZachTheZip
You know, it's funny. You look at the reaction around here and it's like he dropped a bombshell. Honestly, stuff like this should be standard for any new AD at any school. It just goes to show how much we were missing. It's the little things, the simple, easy to do things that we were missing. How much trouble do you think it was for him to take an elevator to the press tower with a cheap camera and talk for one minute? I bet he spent a whole five minutes (if even that) coming up with what he would say. My point is that there's so much that can be done for absolutely no cost, no effort, that go a long way towards creating a feeling of legitimacy when it comes to the athletic department and marketing, but they were things that either didn't happened, or were done half-assed in the past. I take this as a sign that this will be changing soon. Tom, please do your best to lay down a strong foundation for communicating to current fans and drawing in new fans, something that your eventual successor can maintain after you move on, whenever that may be. Honestly, stuff like this should be standardBefore YouTube, Mike Thomas used to do the same thing once a month through the university site by writing a letter. I read it every month. Communication is a wonderful thing. Makes the fan feel like he is part of what is going on and makes he or she get involved.

The previous staff was available, but they weren't out there and telling you they were available, this is the right kind of thing to do and it is important to reach out to the largest collection of followers. Captain Kangaroo
What an absolute breath of fresh air to see the new AD reach out to the fans and say "hello" while the ink on his new contract was still wet. A guy that openly embraces "ZipsNation"...that is awesome! I look forward to meeting, and working with Tom. At first glance he seems to have the roll-up-you-sleeves mentality of Mike Waddell, but with the polish of Mack. I can see why Proenza made the tough decision to pass over Hunter.Welcome Tom! Zipsrifle
Already impressed with this guy. Why is the ABJ so bitter towards him??
GP1
This is a sign of a guy who is up to speed on current marketing trends. I sat through an awesome presentation the other day about using Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, etc. to spread your message or improve traffic on a web page (Hint: Put a blog on your web page and update it at least twice a day. 60% of all internet searches use Google. Google is different than other search engines as it measures more than web page hits. Google includes how often you update your web page. Blogs are an update to a web page. Want more traffic? Include a blog and update it regularly. Use links on Facebook, Twitter, etc. to link to your web page. Get people interested in what you have to say. Use your key search words in your blogs. It works.).I hope to see more of this in the future. This is a good start and is more than communication to fans. It can spread the message to a far broader audience that newspapers, direct mailers, billboards, etc. don't. It also spreads the message much faster than normal marketing mediums. He can update his blog from his Blackberry sitting in his living room.Nice work Mr.W.....(I'm not even going to try to spell it just yet. It will take some practice).
