..."The "Fab Four" as they dub themselves, beat everybody in sight, then travel to Florida to play in the AAU (11 and under) tournament. They lose but decide to stick together through high school. When it is clear that Dru, due to his size, doesn't stand a chance at an all-black school, the group chooses to play for a private, mostly white school, provoking hurt feelings in Akron's black community.Dru's dad comes aboard as an assistant under the hard-driving white head coach Keith Dambrot. A 27-0 season is capped by a state championship in which the undersized point guard throws up seven consecutive three-pointers that hit nothing but net.A second season brings distractions: Transfer student Romeo Travis is a selfish and perpetually angry loner, and James' growing celebrity threatens team cohesion. The coach's decision to accept a college job following the last game, thus reneging on a promise he made the four kids, leaves a feeling of betrayal. The feeling vanishes when Coach Dru is offered the coaching job at SVSM. Trouble is, he is more of a football guy. He questions whether he can guide such a talented, now nationally recognized team."...More than a Game review

I found an interesting fact about the Movie today....It talks about Willie McGee being raised primarily by his older brother Illya McGee. I'm guessing that's the same Illya McGee who played guard for the Zips back in the late 80s. Can anyone confirm that?

I'm interested in seeing how it portrays Maverick Carter, who has become a millionnaire, or near, as a result of his role as "leader of the posse". It was Maverick who reporters had to go to, before they could get an interview with The Chosen One.

He is not mentioned at all.And Mcgee is the younger brother of the former Zip. There are a lot of references to U of A

Bissinger's first chapter is attached. Not about the movie, but interesting read and sort of ties into this thread. For those of us not living in Akron any longer (I actually lived in the city) the visual is real. Bissinger is a bitter old guy now, but he is a great writer. This book should be a good read.

Actually he is -- he's listed in the credits as an Executive Producer of the film. Another phat plum for the head of LeBron's Management Team (LMT).The film is playing here in two weeks as part of the Hawai'i International Film Festival. Another chance to wear my #23 Akron jersey. :P

I've seen the movie now. I would recommend it to anyone. More interesting, entertaining and emotional than I even expected. And it does show a brief picture of Illya in his Zips uniform from 20 years ago. So, that answered my question. It really doesn't talk about anyone else on the team, except for the Jones kid, who took over McGee's starting spot.

Here's an interesting follow-up: http://images.businessweek.com/ss/09/05/05...lege_ceos/5.htmIs this the type of role-model we want to promote? Quit college, fall-ass-backward into $$$ as the friend of a superstar athlete, become his agent, Exec Producer of his film, etc. etc. etc.? Whatalife! :D
