Elton on Dylan & ZekeChicagoHoops.comCrown Mag (Canadian hoops)Quote: [Dylan] "Has drawn interest from Michigan, USC, Washington State, Stanford, St Johns, Fordham and an offer from Akron."
Interesting quote from Elton:"Speaking of recruits, a peak into a recent Akron practice showed all the talents most have heard of for 7-0, 215-pound freshman center Zeke Marshall. Yet based on the first weekend of his Division I basketball education, Marshall is not even close to being a starter."

Quote from Elton's article:"Say what you want about the talent of MAC centers he will face. But Miami's 6-8, 240-pound Adam Fletcher, Buffalo's 6-8, 245-pound Max Boudreau, Bowling Green's 6-10, 270-pound Otis Polk, Ohio U.'s 6-10, 265-pound Ken Van Kempen and Can't State's 6-10, 260-pound Brandon Parks will all be more than eager to give the rookie a proper physical initiation. Twice, each. And that's just the MAC's East Division. "You would think that those "centers" of the mac destroyed us last year! Were they not handled by another Freshman in Cventinovic? or did Can't win the mac last year? :wall:

It's a funny article I think. No duh that after less than 1 week in team workouts a true freshman isn't ready to start on a championship team returning ALL of it's post players. That's not surprising.I snickered as well about EA's list of the centers in the East division. Hilarious that he lists those guys .. Zeke will play significant minutes for the Zips as soon as his grasp and buy in of KD's defensive philosophy merits it. My guess is that will happen well before the conference slate starts. If the guy plays 20 minutes a night and pulls down 6-8 boards and blocks 2-3 shots a night .. any offense he adds will be gravy. The term is "game changer" .. and if he does that on the defensive side of the ball, the tempo will rise, and the Zips shooting attempts and percentages will rise.Go Zips!!! B) B) B) B)

As I previously reported in a different thread, I spoke with EA at the Saturday afternoon practice.Day two, practice number four, and EA spent most of his time jawing, not watching the floor. As I previously mentioned, it was way, way too early to judge much, if anything.I did not previously mention this; Steve Swiech is assigned to closely guard and generally rough upZeke during drills. Steve is pretty good at it. Zeke will learn tons. Playing against men as big ashe is will help Zeke a lot.Any one care to bet that EA will be slobbering all over the mighty Cleveland State?

Really Elton? Kenneth Van Kempen and Brandon Parks? Really? Van Kempen is horrible. He's clearly the worst starting C in the league (not including teams that don't start a true C) and is clearly in the lower 1/4 of DI. Parks is Can't's equivalent to Mike Bardo. He's big, and....he's big. He's there to come in 10-15 minutes a game and take up space. Beyond that he does little more. Fletcher and Boudreau are nice complimentary pieces, but lets be honest here, neither of these guys are top level talent. Polk is about the only guy who should provide any sort of test for an athlete of Zeke's caliber. It's the friggin first week of practice and Elton is already calling Zeke a bust. Quite frankly, Cleveland St. can have him as a beat writer.

I only skimmed the article teh first time I came to this thread, but I got the impression Elton wasn't saying that the other centers are high caliber talent necessarily, but big bodies that can physically make their presence felt, and Zeke may have his hands full with that.

I'm surprised that EA would recommend redshirting the highest-ranked HS basketball recruit ever in the MAC at this early stage. Now if KD decides Zeke could benefit from redshirting, that would be something entirely different. I don't think it will happen, but it's remotely possible. Then again, Zeke selected UA primarily for an education. So he may have no interest in spending five years at any university.I have no doubt that the heavyweights of the MAC will try to use their bulk to advantage against a leaner opponent. But someone with height, speed and jumping ability advantages has the potential to more than neutralize a bulkier opponent.I really, really like the idea of Swiech and Zeke going after each other in practice. This will make them both better players. I expect both Swiech and Bardo to be improved this year, and hopefully all three centers will be able to contribute.

I interrupt this off season self doubting with these entertaining videos of Zeke Marshall:First one is against top flight AAU competition (higher level than KVK and Fletcher):And this one must be against some WPIAL opponent. Big speed and athleticism difference between our man and the poor chaps trying to check him. I love the near teabagging at the end:Who wants to start a "Cheers Posterboard Pool" for which MAC East center gets tea-bagged by Zeke first? B) B) B) B) B) Play the D big fella .. play the D .. the rest will come in plenty of time.Go Zips!!
