MAC Champs!!!

Recommended Posts

Was anyone at the game? I was following on gamecast and it looked as though cards were being thrown left and right, especially near the end. Any perspectives?
My perspective: Hartwick is a dirty team. Frustration got the best of them and they were determined to mar Akron's season, even as theirs was destined to end tonight no matter the result.About half way through the first half, Akron took over and started playing the type of game that got them into this position in the first place. The AK-Rowdies were in Hartwick's heads more than I've seen with any other team this season. Hartwick's president, who was at the game, even filed a complaint against them for being too mean to the keeper.

I hope there will a selection show party!
From GoZips.comThe Zips will not have to wait long to find out who their next opponent is as the NCAA will announce its Soccer Championship selections on ESPNews Monday, Nov. 16, between 5:30 and 6 p.m. (EST). The Akron Athletics department will host an official Watch Party at the Barley House, located on 222 S. Main Street. Fans are encouraged to attend the free event, which will feature a number of food specials.

Akron wins 2-1, perfect 20-0-0, almost assured of the #1 seed tomorrow :)
Here is my prediction of the top eight seeds based on strength of schedule, conference affiliation,NCAA biases, etc.Number one seed goes to Virginia ACC tourney champs RPI #7Number two seed goes to UCLA PAC-10 champs RPI #5Number three seed goes to Wake Forest ACC regular season champs RPI #2Number four seed goes to Ohio State Big Ten Regular Season and tourney champs RPI #11Number five seed goes to North Carolina (ACC) RPI #4Number six seed goes to Harvard IVY League champs RPI #8Number seven seed goes to San Diego RPI #9Number eight seed goes to Akron MAC champs RPI #1This sets up Virginia with the "easiest" path to the College Cup. as per usual the College Cup isgeared for an ACC winner. It is possible with this scheme to have three of the Final Four teamsfrom the ACC. Plus the two West Coast teams eliminate one or the other. The NCAA is NOT going to seed Akron as the number one seed. Take that to the bank.

What? Did one of your friends who "knows a lot about soccer" tell you that?
w00t, my friend, I want as much as anyone for the Zips to get the overall numbr one seed whichthey have earned. We are dealing with the ego inflated NCAA here. Remember back to last year'stournament. Six of the eight home teams in the Sweet Sixteen had unplayable home fields. Only one,the Zips, were forced to move their game to the lower seed's home field. The other five schools wereallowed to play on a field close to their own home field. We are not a BCS school. Akron is not treatedequally with ACC schools. The only solution is to beat everyone in our way. I believe that we will.

I'm sorry, but we're #1 and it's not even close. 20 wins, no loses, no ties, two total OT for the ENTIRE SEASON. We played (and beat) a lot of ranked teams... I would be shocked and angry if we didn't get #1... on the other hand it is the NCAA, so I'm buying some lube today in case we do get screwed. Hopefully it will make it easier to take this year...

A Zips fan that doesn't already have a medicine cabinet full of lube? I don't believe it. I buy the stuff by the case at Sam's Club.Wait...I went through a ton of it yesterday afternoon as I watched Austin Peay bury us with a 17-0 run at game's end. Couple that with the Temple footballer's 49-0 run against our gridiron guys....I just might need to re-stock myself. H1N1 vaccine and lube are the two hottest items in Summit County right now. Thanks to Caleb and the guys for salvaging many Zips Fan's weekend!

Nice to meet you at the championship game. Seems like you are among the few who understands thatour seed is not about the Zip's record or who we beat. It is completely about how the NCAA operates. The field is composed of forty-eight teams seeded one to forty-eight. The number one seed gets thetheoretically easiest path to the national championship. Virginia is going to get the number one seed. The odds against the Zips getting a top four seed are astronomical. We are not a BCS school. There are NOT four number one seeds. Seeds one through four get home field advantage up to theFinal Four. Go back and look how I built the Elite Eight and see how the teams will face each otherto get to the Final Four.A fair number of posters on ZN were not around a few years back when the Zips dominated the polls. For more than half the season the Zips were a consensus number one. How surprised were we whenthe lofty NCAA relegated the Zips to the ninth seed. That forced Akron to go on the road in the thirdround to face eighth seed UCONN. After dispatching UCONN in a shoot out (at one point the Zips ledthat game 3-0) the Zips played number one seed Maryland and lost in a shoot out. Maryland breezedthrough the Final Four to claim the championship. Oh, did I mention that Maryland is an ACC school?I strongly hope that I am wrong in my assessment. Until I see it with my own eyes I will hold the NCAAas suspect. The NCAA screwed us last year, remember?

By the case? I guess we all have our secrets......
If you are a fan of Zips athletics and you don't own a case of lube, then then the Lord blessed you with either a very loose, or very wide orifice.I must assume that when a strong wind blows past the Great GP1's posterior, a sound similar to that found in a jug band is produced.

Gozips, are you willing to put money on that statement?
I have a friend who knows absolutely nothing about soccer. Even he knows the Zips will get a #1 seed.
How can the #1 team in the country not be a #1 seed?
Ha. Are you joking? Because the rankings mean nothing to the committee that makes the selections. My 2 cents though is that the Zips are your #1 seed. It would be a travesty of epic proportions if we are not.

While I do suspect that the NCAA is certainly biased for BCS type schools, this year will provide an interesting test. We did very well in those other years you mentioned, in 2005 we did indeed hold the top spot for four weeks, but in the final coaches poll before the tournament started we were ranked 8th. I can't find the RPI number but as I remember it was right around that same value and we were seeded ninth. Seems reasonable to me. Last year our RPI was 7 and we received a 5 seed. Also seems reasonable (we even went up a little). If we don't get a top four seed this year (and I do expect it should be #1) which would give all home games, then I'll believe any conspiracy theory you want. I just have a hard believing the NCAA has an admin whose sole purpose is to look for ways to screw Akron (or other non "BCS" schools). While the events in the past could look suspicious there is at least plausible deniability on the part of the NCAA as to why they happened (even last year the rule was in place about the home field and Akron did not have a backup field that qualified. Was it right? No, but there was a rule put in place to prevent it from happening this year because of Akron). So what I'm saying is that this year is a really good test case. If Akron does not get at least a top four seed, then the system is crooked. I don't think it is. We'll see at 5:30 today. Now if you want my opinion on FBS football, that is a whole different matter ... :)
