Fickell played under Cooper at OSU. Never the biggest or fastest but always in on the plays. I like him. Coached akrons d-line 2000-01And about Wagner and Nicely leaving... I don't know how someone has a better source than me. When I asked, the kid laughed and said no way. We do not need to start fear mongering.

Unless the head coach hire has two heads Nicely would be crazy to leave UA. The fans love the kid, he's got a year in the program now, he knows his way around and he's the king of the heap here. Why would a kid leave that situation to go into The Great Unknown? You leave the program, you are thrown right back into the meat grinder at another program where now you're the new kid with much to prove. It makes no sense to think that Nicely will be going anywhere.

I would imagine that either Rogers or Nicely will split. Rodgers is banged up, but was the starter at one point so I imagine he won't want to take a back seat to a younger player. It may be a bit of a waiting game for these players to see how the new coaching staff reacts and what the other player does. Oh, that reminds me, I hope the new coach can bring in players who stay long enough for us to learn their names....we seemed to have a high turnover with JD

He is the winningest active DII Head Coach in the country.He also succeded Brian Kelley as the Head Coach. Last year many MAC schools were after his service, but he refused all of them, because they were not offering him enough money. His salary is $150,000.

I hear what you guys are saying and its just a name I thought I'd throw out there since he is the kind of guy that looks like he'd turn down bigger offers if he's happy where he is. That's the kind of guy I want. I do wonder though how easy it is to recruit to Memphis in Conference USA, not sure when looking at facilities if Akron might be an easier place to recruit to. I think most would tell you West is a good coach that always seems to have lesser caliber players than the opponents he was facing. The question to me then would be is he not good enough at recruiting or does he need to be at a school that will be more impressive to potential recruits?Anybody know the status of the head coach at the University of New Hampshire? If we go the FCS head coach route that might be an excellent choice.

Didn't say he was wrong, said it wasn't particularly classy move to write about a potential new coach from another program who had yet to be fired and then write (soon to be fired) next to his name. We all knew he was a goner too, but wouldn't put someones name as a replacement until the official announcement was actually made. Got it? A little decorum would have called for waiting at least until the announcement was made. Not too classy. Or should I have gone with the classic "Keep it classy Youngstown"!

With Snyder now out at Marshall, and Mangino in possible hot water at Kansas, this is looking to be a season of relatively high head coaching turnover. BTW IF Mangino gets fired, I think he'd make an interesting candidate. He's from New Castle, PA originally and his 50-48 career record at KU is pretty good for a "hoops" school IMHO. I'm not sure we could afford him, but maybe he'd look at us as a great chance to redefine his legacy.

Didn't Mark Snyder just get fired for sucking at Marshall? Does anybody really want to hire a coach that was fired for losing too many games? I don't want this job to be a reward for one of Wistrcill's buddies like Wisconsin OC Paul Chryst. In fact, I don't want any coordinator, let alone a position coach. How can a position coach possibly be prepared to manage an entire team?If we do go that route, I think that Paul Winters will be the first guy we'll call once this next coach gets fired for underperforming.

somebody on another site suggested Glen Mason...might be a good guess...mr. wistrcill comes from minnesota...he obviously made the decision to dimiss the previous regime weeks ago,he stated he doesn't want a 'rebuilding' process,enough talent is there now...it at least appears he already had some people in mind he thought he could get fairly quickly so that recruiting doesn't take too much of a hit...
