deacon33
Does anyone know any info on this. I over heard some alumni talking about it in the Tommy Evans Lounge. Is it going to be called Hipsher Hall, just what was being said. For all Dan did for the program. Any info would be appreciated.

ZachTheZip
It's going to be a new building for the College of Education, last I heard (allowing them to move out of Zook Hall so it can be renovated like Leigh Hall). There is no need for a gym since the rec center was built. What is needed is an arena, and I can't see it being built on that spot, nor can I see something like that being named after Hipsher. But yes, Memorial Hall is being torn down as soon as the offices and classrooms can be moved to floors 2-4 of Infocision Stadium. ksu sucks
But yes, Memorial Hall is being torn down as soon as the offices and classrooms can be moved to floors 2-4 of Infocision Stadium.According to the College of Education, it's got about 140 days.http://www.uakron.edu/colleges/educ/ There's a countdown at the bottom of the page. deacon33
Hipsher did a lot for the program, he brought in recruits like Scott Hample, Ruben Conway, Johnny Carson (RIP), Bruce Wienkien, Klaus Zollner and Ali Kart. He had a superb staff that included John Pigatti, who if you remember introduced himself to the commissioner of the MAC in a most interesting way at the MAC tourney. There are so many things this man can be remembered for. A gymnasium in his name is the least we can do for him.

The guy compiled a very mediocre 112-137 with 5 losing seasons and one .500 season in 9 years here. He never took us out of the quarterfinals of the MAC tournament let along to the NCAA's or NIT's. Never got to 20 wins on a season. Only twice did he finish better than .500 in the MAC. Fact of the matter is Hipsher's impact on the Zips basketball program was insignificant at best. Quickzips
You know what Rugby, you are right, whatever new arena we get should be named after Hipsher. While we are at it, I think we should re-name Infocision Stadium to Lee Owens Stadium. I mean, Owens did more to get us some respectability than anyone else. He brought in some good recruits in Domenik Hixon, Charlie Frye, Chase Blackburn, etc. Granted, he never won shit while he was here. Never beat a BCS team, never got us close to a conference championship and his teams consistently underperformed. I mean he was going up against a better MAC than what we have now with those dominant Marshall teams and some very good teams in Miami, Toledo, NIU, etc. He had to deal with future NFL players like Byron Leftwich, Ben Roethlisberger, Chad Pennington, etc. Never mind the fact that he accomplished absolutely nothing while he was here, let's re-name the stadium after him. I volunteer to help take down all the Infocision Stadium signs and I'll even start working on a design logo for Owen's Stadium.

Do not think it would even be close. Might as well name it after Owens, JD did not worl out as all you thought he would a couple years ago. Whose to say that KD will not have the same fate. I have sat in the stands in the same shirt for 20 yrs now. The team mentioned above is better than anything KD has brought in, they played better competition.
