zippyrifle32
I sat on the grass sideline and it was a BE-AU-TI-FUL goal by Kofi. Meves was amazing in the last 20:00. #14 on Tulsa was as dirty as any Can't player (if they played soccer). I want to know how many fouls in addition to his yellow were called against him. Porter got a yellow at half time. He was speaking intently with the ref and the ref carded him before he went to go speak to the team. Did anyone else see that? No one around me because they were all chatting and getting snacks.CAUTIONS AND EJECTIONSTULSA #14 GONSALVES, Blaine Yellow card 38:58 AKRON #13 ZEMANSKI, Ben Yellow card 38:58 TULSA #17 SALEM, Joe Yellow card 43:20 AKRON #TM TEAM Yellow card 45:00 TULSA #12 CHRISTIANSEN, Hunter Yellow card 83:

GoZips88
Just for comparison ... only 1522 in Winston-Salem, NC tonight to see Wake beat UCLA 2-0. 4-2-5-4 in Akron - OUTSTANDING!

72 Roo
Incredible, incredible night! I salute everyone who showed up. I love the 4,254 who showed. With better accomodations we could have gone to 6,000! People want top see this team. They are one of the best teams ever in NCAA play. That being said, I am super impressed by Tulsa. They are worthy of the top 8. They played physical and at times cheap. That's to be expected when you are chasing the #1 team. They were winning the game for the last 20 minutes. We lost our gas and made many bad decisions. In spite of that, we won and that's all that matters.Expect an announcement soon corroborating Frenchie's tip that a new field will be built for next year complete with better lights, drainage, irrigation, etc. The year after, we build the grandstand. Earlier I didn't care about seating behind the west goal. The specs for the new stadium don't call for it, but after seeing the stands filled tonight behind that goal, and the atmosphere they helped to create, I am lobbying hard to see at least berm seating there, if not stands.Folks, tonight was a glimpse into the future. We have a good chance to win it all. We have a good chance to keep Caleb. TW can see that the vision for all Zip sports is alive now in our soccer program, i.e. playing at the highest level. Expect him to keep it growing. He's a smart man and he can see what you and I want happening here on campus. This will raise the university's profile, bring the women's program along too and challenge all the other sports to follow soccer's lead. What a time to be a Zip! Thanks Caleb and booters. After football we needed that.

After football we needed that. I had to watch on gozips, and even then it was incredibly exciting. You're right, for that last 20 minutes, especially the last few minutes, Tulsa was desperate and they played like it. You could see the tide shifting. It was a thrilling way to end to the match. A huge challenge is coming up next, but this team is up to it.I know I'm really looking ahead, which I usually hate to do, but I can't help myself from envisioning this team going into 2010 as the defending national champions and ranked No. 1, with Caleb Porter coaching with a nice reworked contract. Zipsrifle
I personally feel that NE Ohio has been starving for a winner for what, the past 50 years? I think this is why OSU is so popular and why TV coverage of local HS football state championships get so much attention. (Did anyone notice how the only "local" HS football team to win, Norwalk St Paul didn't get any TV coverage until all the greater Cleveland schools choked?) My point is that I believe there is a huge market for UA, if we are successful. Sure, soccer isn't that popular here, but if we win it all, there will be a LOT of excitement about this. If Caleb can consistently compete, year in and year out, we will need more than 5000 seats at LJF. Bring it home guys, make us starved Akron fans proud! They do an amazing job for the University.I'm more confused with the policy.Oh trust me i understand. This whole postseason the cops working the Jack have been great. Most didn't care what was said towards the other team and looked the other way when anything out of line was said. The problem was just one guy, and it wasn't just the end of the game. To my left were some Joe Salem/Tulsa fans and they were getting a little out of control by the end of the game as they had somehow managed to sneak in A LOT of beer. A girl to my right complained to this same UAPD cop and his response was "you're allowed to drink if you're 21" and he did nothing about it. When someone else stated that the Tulsa fans were being obnoxious and profane the cop told them to "get over it". And ya know, this guy may have just been having a bad day or something but still it doesn't give him the right to be an ass. In terms of the policy, i would have to think it's an NCAA tournament rule that no one is allowed on the field during postgame. It's stupid and not fun, but hey that's the NCAA for you. They are the same people who had those little yellow megaphones taken from the Rowdies before the game even started.
Zipsrifle
Well, for the Tulsa fans outnumbered by what, 4,200 Akron fans, I think the cop did right by cutting them a lot of slack. They made a long drive and though they were obnoxious, you mean the rowdies couldn't drown those two out? Seriously, if they weren't hurting anyone, let them go. It wasn't like they were going to start a riot or anything.

They were St V graduates that were friends of Joe Salem, they were very obnoxious and spilling beer on me and people around me (including my 14 year old cousin and his friend who came with him). This was along with them shouting things far more profane than any Rowdies were yelling with many children in the general area.Oh yeah and there were about 10+ of them. I watched some of them (The ones that were screaming during the corner kicks against us anyway) hassle one of the...more vocal rowdies. After the game they were leaving and one of them yelled "Go Tulsa". I made eye contact with him and screamed "You lost...GET THE F*&K BACK TO OKLAHOMA YOU B*&@H". It was fun calling someone out and screaming profanities at them.
