GP1
Shane Montgomery has been interviewed for a spot on the staff at YSU.This guy has gone from offensive coordinator at Miami, to head coach at Miami, to offensive ccoordinator at UofA, to interviewing for a position at YSU.Can he really not get a better job or is he working the Ohio Public Employee Retirement System? He is sort of a minor legend in the ACC so I don't understand why he wouldn't look to being an assistant somewhere in the ACC or ECU or something like that. Every press release about our new coaches has a quote from Ianello about how the position coach or the coordinator is a great recruiter, but I don't see mentions of them being good coaches. When you win games, you don't need to be an amazing recruiter because the talent will be drawn to you. We have enough talent to win the MAC already. That should be the main focus.

I wonder sometimes if is good or bad that we get guys from bigger programs. Tough to tell where they are in their careers, and what they truly think of Akron football and MAC football. Younger guys should definitely look at what has happened to Meyer, Kelly, Jones, Gill, etc. Some of the older guys...are they just here b/c they still want to be a part of the game, and are not giving up on a dream and/or don't know what else to do with themselves and they will take almost any job. I tend to think, OVERALL, it is a good thing to have the guys from the big programs who have some of those experiences. It is definitely going to be an interesting spring as these guys get together and start rebuilding/retooling things.

Kiffin has given him a lot of credit down here for improving UT's running game this past year. I can't believe Akron got him to be a position coach. Given his extensive history, I would have expected that someone would have to offer him a coordinator position to get him. Great hire! The resume at Akron isn't pretty, but he'll do just fine in YSU. We have a winning tradition and will get the job done. Trust me, anyone is better than the last bum at Offensive Coordinator we had. Captain Kangaroo
Interesting to see another former Zips coach on the list - Jim Pry. Out at Illinois, I guess. He's a good guy.Who's going to be the YSU Recruiting Coordinator?
eguins
Who's going to be the YSU Recruiting Coordinator?I assume our head coach. The man was one of the best recruiters in the nation when he was at Illinois and South Carolina. He got kids with offers to schools like Ohio State and Michigan to come to Illinois and kids with offers to Georgia and Florida to come to South Carolina. Mark Porter of ScoutingOhio.com says he is one of the best college recruiters he has ever worked with. We already got Allen Jones out of Ursuline to commit and a QB with 3-4 I-A/FBS offers out of New Mexico; name is Meiko Locksley, son of NM Head Coach Mike Locksley. As of now, I do not think Akron and YSU are in the running for the same kids, but our head coach is going after two local kids that are currently committed to Toledo (Harper-Ursuline) and Can't State (Wollet-Poland). I will keep you folks updated.
Captain Kangaroo
Allen Jones is a good "get" for YSU. I figured him to go to an MAC program.
Lee Adams
heard jones had a look from a big 10 school or two...he might have had some question marks around test scores...too bad he didn't come here...i believe he was at the spring game... eguins
He got a number of looks from Big Ten schools, but no offers. His only offers were at the FCS Level. He will likely shine at this level. About his grades, considering I am an alum of Ursuline, I can tell you that his grades were just fine, per a teacher there. Did not hear anything about test scores.I believe he was sold on the fact our coach was an Ursuline alum that had been talking with him since his freshmen year when Wolf was at Illinois and most recently at South Carolina.
