WBB vs. Can't State

That's right. Tonight is the Women's basketball game against Can't State, at the JAR. Tip off is at 7:00PM.Last season at the JAR, the women broke an 18-game losing streak to the flushers. The crowd played a big part in that. It's time to establish a home winning streak against them. The first step towards becoming a respectable rivalry in this sport. This game means a lot for MAC tournament seeding. I know the women's team has the potential to be the best one we've seen in a decade. They need our support.Go Zips!

Nice win! Saw the F-lashes twice couple weeks ago. They are a pretty athletic team, but they can't seem to make the big basket when they need it. No "go-to" lady.

I was at the game also and noticed a few different things. As you all know from my previous posts about the WBB, i do attend a good number of games each year. My niece loves it and she learns alot while were watching. 1.) As i noticed tonight, there are alot of new faces to the basketball program. The team this year unlike last year has shows that when they go down....it doesnt mean they are out. There were a few times that Can't went ahead. Teams in the past seem to of slowed up and "gave up" when that happened... not this team. it seems like that motivated them to play harder. 2.) I think we have one of the better centers in the MAC. That girl is tall and blocks alot of shots. Doesnt seem to score a whole bunch, but her 10-12 points a game are more then enough. She changed the way teams play again akron because they know that akron has a force in the middle, unlike in the past.3.) This team plays together alot more then in the past. In the last few years the games i went to, it was Kara Murphy shooting,rebounding and doing it all because she didnt have much help around her after Mccoy went to BG. This year she has other players around her that are helping take the load off of her by scoring,rebounding and playing very good D.4.) The crowd seems to be getting larger this year. The AK-Rowdies showed up with a good number if members tonight.........and a few times i seen them having the official laughing at their antics. heck, a few times Can't's coach was laughing at the remarks being made to him lol.and last but not least...................... my god we have got a few very good looking girls on the dance team and cheerleading squad lol. (sorry, dont mean to offend anybody with the last comment, i only speak the truth)oh yeah, and it is always good to beat Can't state and hear their fans cry about how bad the officials were.............. i say we get the some cry me a river and just put that portion on replay for the end of the games, cuz each and every sport that akron beats Can't in ( all of them) their fans cry about officiating......... get over it, you just got your a$$es kicked by the better team

I'm not all that interested in the wbb program, but I like Coach Kest and always have because I think she knows what to do to turn this program into a winning program. Staying with her the past couple of years looks to be paying off.They are 8-8 and 2-1 in the MAC. When is the last time the wbb program had this good of a record?The new football coach and KD had some talent when they came in as coaches. JK had nothing but a big pile of crap. She cleaned out the barn and brought in players who want to win. Just because they haven't won the MAC doesn't mean that her accomplishments are not significant. JK has had the hardest job of any coach that I can ever remember at UofA.

GP1 is totally correct. There was such a culture of death associated with Akron women's basketballthat remnants of it still exist. That shows in the unfairly low attendance numbers.Coach Kest has step by step, piece by piece, rebuilt the women's program. High school players who inthe recent past would not even listen to Akron coaches are now listening. Akron women's basketballnow has a sound reputation locally. I know this because today I spoke with a gentleman who has morethan thirty years association with girl's high school basketball locally.The Lady Zips are not a finished product; far from it. They are, however, now respectable in the MAC.Opposing coaches must now do battle with the Ladies on and off the court for wins and talent.My friend pointed out a couple of glaring problems the Lady Zips have. And his awareness that coachKest is actively working on resolving the issues. He stated that given two or three more years Akronwill be competing for the MAC title. I agree.
