RootforRoo44
Terry Pluto is one of the most respected sports journalists in American history.By journalists maybe. Pluto is alright but nothing even close to great. BTW, if im not mistaken Terry Pluto graduated from Cleveland State so how does a Ohio University person like yourself even consider Terry Pluto as so great? I mean dont you have plenty of other better journalists from Scripps? Personally, I can think of tons better than Terry Pluto.

GP1
I normally find Pluto's articles somewhat overly gushy about games like tonight, but this is actually a good article.Interesting quote by KD about MAC teams "earning" a birth into the NIT. I would agree 100%. They earn their way in by not winning the MAC.

Captain Kangaroo
The most recent time the MAC received an at-large selection was 1999. It went to Miami, primarily because of Wally Szczerbiak's star power.Yeah...it had nothing to do with the fact that Miami had a great TEAM that season. They made the freaking Sweet 16, and beat Xavier and Notre Dame during their OOC season.
Dr Z
Put me down in the don't like Bluto column. While he does have a talent to write that I don't have, he lacks material and good opinion. I agree this is one of his better articles. At the very least he got quotes from the coaches. I have no issue with this article. I wish I learned more in general when I read his articles. I'm going off the days I lived in Akron and subscribed to the BJ. I remember being super psyched when the Indians got Roberto Alomar, the one time Bluto did have an opinion was the next day when he wrote what a terrible move it was for the Indians to sign such a player. Roberto was such a bad person. He spit on an umpire once...blah blah blah. He acted like he was so righteous. And all along, Terry was addicted to porn. Wonder how that is working out for him. With the invention of the internet there are plenty of good writers with talent that have opinions that I enjoy much more than TP.
Z.I.P.
I think the most significant part of this article is actually the comments section afterward. Notice that it receives the same sort of remarks that used to appear in Ohio.com -- and the same "You should be glad for the scraps we feed you" response from the Plutonic one.To whit: "I really wish the PD would cover more local MAC specifically Can't and Akron. I know more about the migration patterns of perch and walleye from the PD sports than whats going on with two of the top programs in Ohio." And Terry's response (in part): So far, I have not received a single email on this Akron/Can't story. That's at least 5 MAC type stories in the last few months from me. The Plain Dealer sports section seems to be morphing into the old Akron BJ, while the Beacon is improving -- at least in its coverage of Akron athletics. goodthts
I grew up in Akron reading the BJ and now the PD. My opinion is Terry Pluto is a good, enjoyable read as a writer, not a great one. I enjoy his opinions and thoughts in articles. Writers who just spout facts and stats bore me.As stated earlier in the thread, to those that say Pluto stinks, OK. Just tell me who you think is better! Back up your statements.I will then take your suggestions and do my research.
