Lee Adams
You must all be joking, especially cornbread. There are no players who are more important than the team. I saw Devoe play too and was not particularly impressed. If he has decided that he doesn't want to be a part of the team going forward, good for him and good for the team. JD had a great knack at bringing in players who simply did not pan out and there is no reason to take the side of any of them over the new coaching staff. People who try to undermine new staff, as they are just beginning to build their program, are simply cancers. For cornbread, are you, presumably as a grown man, going to take the side of a few young kids over the grown men of good reputation who were hired to mold this team? These players are essentially still kids and need to get with the program or go away. Devoe will move along to another school. Good for him, good for us and good for the program. Until I see how this team performs on the field I will support Ianello and his staff 1000 times over any individual player or small group of players. I simply don't care what a young 18 or 19 year old kid thinks about the coaches. To each of these pampered athletes I say take your scholarship and work your ass off. Play the way you're expected to play and work within the system, or get the hell out. When you become a star and help to define a winning , entertaining program, we'll talk. Until then you simply aren't important individually. most on this site wouldn't ackowledge it at the time but torrence was a huge gamble when brookhart brought him in...if you only read the papers you had no idea what this guy did or was like...unfortunately his off the field behavior was far worse than met the eye... if he was that good he would have played last year...his OTHER behavior should have been a huge red flag...but coaches ignore what they choose to ignore...if he couldn't get on the field with the coach who recruited him...well? I love people that take the facts, throw them out the door, and make their own reality. Ridiculous, you didn't have anything to say about him until he left. Exactly thank you G-mann its funny that some people all of a sudden know Devoe on a personal level, or know the situation he was involved in. FACT #1 Devoe has only been involved in one off the field issue. FACT #2 He wasnt accused by himself there were a group of around 15-20 massillon football players that were accused of being involved in a groupie type sex ring with underage girls. FACT #3 The case went to the grad Jury where the females or accusers later admitted to fabricating the story because they wanted attention, FACT #4 All of the players were acquitted of all charges. The only thing this kid is guilty of is getting mixed up in that situation in the first place, he took responsibility for that went to court the girl lied he was found innocent so what are they other problems your talking about ??? DeVoe Torrence acquitted of statutory rape charges From the Canton Repository; A Massillon teen has been acquitted of a rape charge involving a 15-year-old girl. Stark County Family Court Judge David E. Stucki said he didn't find enough evidence to convict DeVoe J. Torrence, a one-time Ohio State University football recruit, of the juvenile charge. Torrence testified today and denied a sexual encounter took place. The girl initially testified that she didn't remember what happened between her and Torrence after she went to his bedroom in the early morning hours of Sept. 23. But she later said the two had sex and detailed their condom use for the court. On cross examination by defense attorney Jeffrey Haupt, the girl admitted it all was a lie and that the sex never happened. Torrence, now 18, was charged with rape because the girl was 15 at the time. The trial was held juvenile court because Torrence was 17 at the time. Jim Tressel withdrew this kid's scholarship a few months back, and it was speculated that these charges were the primary reason.
Zipgrad01
I have a feeling that Torrence leaving had more to do with the coaching staff asking him to play where he didn't want to play (LB) then it did with "hard feelings" or "bad treatment" with the coaching staff. We are inundated with running backs. Allen, Alexander and Martin are likely to get the most carries. They probably were honest with Torrence and said "we could use your body on defense, or if you can put on weight and move to fullback that would help the team a lot" and having the same attitude as he did with JD he said "I'm a running back, if I don't carry here then I am going some place else" Ding, ding, ding!!! I have said all along that Devoe is not a running back, but a STUD linebacker. He got into it with the Massillon staff because they wanted him to play linebacker and he refused. I have no idea why because he is a mediocre running back, but a potential all american at linebacker.
MaxZIP
Are we any worse off now without him? Some of our young and hungry guys can now get more carries.

Buckzip
Have we ever had a "big name" recruit that landed here actually live up to the hype? Of the few that actually ever played...No. The list is long and endless, but I won't mention it because CK will get mad at me. It seems like the only good players were off the radar guys. InTheZone
The only one I can think of in the last 20 years is OSU-commit Dennis Kennedy, and that's probably a stretch considering he only had one good season.

Blue & Gold
Has there been any word on where he is transferring to? I saw Devo run in high school and was honestly pretty underwhelmed. But, then again, I saw Beanie run in high school and wasn't particularly blown away either. Shows what I know.

Tyrell Sutton seemed to be the far better prospect. No idea where Devoe is going. I bet his first choice is to find one of the BCS schools that were interested in him a few years ago. As for highly-rated recruits that actually panned out, wasn't Jason Taylor considered a top recruit when he came into the program?

vmd9
Wait let me get this straight. He was charged with rape, because at the age of 17, he had sex with a girl that was 15? Does this mean that all kids in high school can technically go to jail? I've heard of juniors dating freshman, or even seniors dating sophomores. It's not very common but it happens. I mean if he forced himself on her, that's one thing but that doesn't seem to be the case. Am I the only one who finds it strange his life should be ruined for something this dumb? I believe the age of consent in Ohio is 16. So since she was under 16, at 17, that would be considered statutory rape correct?

I followed the link and Torrence did not break any of those laws, unless I am misunderstanding. I am not a lawyer, nor an Ohio resident, so I don't know the laws around here. Other than the "In Ohio it is illegal to fish for whales on Sundays." But back to the point, I don't understand why a kid who's 17, can get in trouble for relations with a girl 2 years younger. I'm 21, so I guess in Ohio I'm not allowed to date any girls that are 19 or 23, or else I would get in trouble? Uhh oh stay away from the college sophmores? and I believe Hugh Hefner would be in jail for the rest of his life
