GoZips
Let's be brutally honest here. The National Champion Mount Union Purple Raiders would get destroyed by a 3-9 Division 1-A team. Take nothing away from Mount Union; its all about the talent level. Its measured in speed, size, quicks, smarts, and a dozen intangibles. Then again, its always fun to dream. Blue & Gold
Very true, GoZips. If UA lined up against MUC, not many Purple Raiders would get off the field sans a stretcher. Lol. But Coach I was definitely only joking. I believe the title of the article said as much. Well, at least I hope nobody thought he was serious! Lol. The Canton Repository also has a nice story about the speech. Again, I can't post it from my BlackBerry. So if someone else would be so kind... zip37
WHAT MAKES ANYONE THINK THAT THE ZIPS COULD BEAT MOUNT UNION UNIV.[NOTE THEY CHANGED THEIR NAME OR SOON WILL]? MUU ISN'T EXACTLY CHOPPED LIVER.
skip-zip
Ok...come on...stop right now. That game would not be anything close to competitive, even while we are a bad D-1A football team right now. If the game actually happened, I'd be disappointed if the score wasn't at least 35-0 at the half.

I got razzed by a Mount Union grad a few years ago because she said their football team scrimmaged ours and they beat us by a decent margin. I find that HIGHLY unlikely. I have watched both schools play and Akron would absolutely murder Mount Union by as many as they wanted to.

I dont remember if she was a trainer or not, but she was somehow a part of the team.
johnnyzip84
The truth is, Kehres would want NO part of this. He (apparently) likes regular season games that amount to little more than exhibitions whose sole purpose is to "fine tune" the Raiders for the real season. I don't think he'd even want to mess with a D-2 school because of it, but it would be interesting to see him take on, say Edinboro or Ashland. Both of those schools come from pretty decent D-2 conferences though. There just might be a D-2 school out there he could beat.......or even an FCS (especially non-scholly).....but no FBS team would even struggle. Blue & Gold
Both Walsh and Malone are soon going to be moving to NCAA D-II. Word on the street is both schools have been trying to get Mount on the schedule for years but MUC doesn't want any part of either of them. vmd9
a FCS team had no chance against us. Why would we waste our time playing a D2 or D3 team? that makes no sense

vmd9
a FCS team had no chance against us. Why would we waste our time playing a D2 or D3 team? that makes no sense Ask KD! Well technically the bball team played them in an exhibition game right? I think all the teams we played in the regular season were at least in Division 1, but I could be wrong. Also with basketball there are 30+ games, you have room for a few cupcake teams. Football's tougher. You only have a handful of home games, and saying that UA is avoiding scheduling MU is ridiculous. A team is good in D3? big deal! they wouldn't last 1 quarter against any D1 teams. It's a whole different ballgame. Those guys were most likely not recruited by any schools, and are not on scholarships. It might as well be club football. I think the Morgan State game showed how a pretty poor FBS team can do against the FCS. Of course you have the once in a blue moon App State game against Michigan, but still that's two D1 teams. We would not benefit anything, nor do I think we would even be allowed, to play a D3 team. It's a complete WASTE of time for everyone! The basketball team played Malone in a a regular season game on December 12 and won 62-30. I understand that this was finals week and if KD wants to make an argument about this being beneficial for STUDENT-athletes, I buy it. However, this is definitely not the way to garner the interest of Joe Akron or legitimize the program as being in the big leagues. If there is a similar option in the future, I would just prefer KD doesn't schedule a game leading up to or during finals. I know, I know...easier said than done because of other scheduling constraints, etc. Consider this horse beat!
