Silver lining

These are anxious times around Bowling Green. Quarterback Omar Jacobs is hurt. And until there is official word about how long he will be out, expect more than one Falcons fan to be holding their breath.

Jacobs, the 6-4, 225-pound junior, suffered a separated left (non-throwing) shoulder after being sacked in the first quarter of a 45-14 home loss to Western Michigan. The Broncos, easily the surprise team in the MAC, now find themselves a threat in the MAC West Division race at 4-3, 2-2.

Jacobs, 6-of-9 passing for 98 yards before his exit, leaves BG in a precarious position if he is out of action for long. The loss did not bump the Falcons out of first place in the MAC East (4-3, 3-1) but left little room for any more errors. Akron, Miami and Ohio University each have two league losses, and the Zips and RedHawks will play the Falcons.

BG got more bad news Saturday as receiver Marques Parks suffered a broken foot. Tailback P.J. Pope played sparingly after sitting out last week at Buffalo with ankle injuries.

Jacobs' backup, Anthony Turner, had thrown one pass before the WMU game. He finished 20-of-38 for 242 yards and two interceptions.

Reprieve:

It's not often a team gets a second chance at a championship, but the Akron Zips are in that position. Two weeks ago the Zips went to Miami needing an upset but lost, 51-23. The Zips added to their misery on Saturday by losing to Army, which came in sporting the longest losing streak in the nation, 20-0. On Akron's homecoming!

But the Zips (3-4, 2-2) can claim a share of the MAC East lead by knocking off the Falcons Saturday. Before losing in Oxford, Akron was known as a team that played well as an underdog. The Zips have a chance to regain that reputation

This situation is 100% equivalent to the Marshall/Akron game a few years ago.

Without Jacobs, BG is VERY mortal. It would be really nice to wake up the echoes and pull off the win here, because BG is ripe for the picking.

Do the Zips smell blood in the water?

or do they continue their Endzonaphobia?

the fact is as badly as we have played so have bg,miami,Can't ,niu and for that matter the whole mac. every team in the mac has been beat badly at least once.

there are no great teams.the teams needs to get it together this week. if we win we are right back in it. a loss though, and the season is pretty much done.as for getsy.

this team has allot more problems than just getsy.frye had spoiled us with winning games without a defense, and running game. did any one on hear think that losing the ol, and frye would make the offense better this year? there is still no reason that we can't beat bg without omar. bg got rolled by (western michigan) not michigan;so no excuses for going up there ,and playing bad. go akron.

If the Zips play like they did this past Sat. BG will blow them out with P.J. Pope as their Qb.

I've seen Pope. Cocky guy, predicting touchdowns like this? I hope we cream him.

I can't believe nobody has commented on it yet. Check out the bling on that guy.

I've never seen a more humorless group of people than the posters on this site.
