Robert Morris and Ashland for a recruit....Put Marietta College on there and we will have beaten all the major players for a recruit.. timmyboy
I actually seen this kid play a few times, and watched his highlight film. I talked to a few of my friends who work at other larger colleges an they said the only knock on this kid, was his height. He has a great motor. Fast getting to the ball. Knows how to create turnovers and never takes a play off. Just ask some of them boys from cardinal mooney. They couldnt block him.

I double checked to make sure you didn't mean Vandy, Rutgers and Appy State. You didn't. Is that a kick in the head or what?
Zipgrad01
Not even close to having the foot speed to play at the D1 level. I find this verbal hard to believe. He isnt even in the rivals database.
72 Roo
I'm glad to see we beat out two mediocre FCS teams and one average D2 team for this young man. Coach I is offering a lot of big time players, but only getting acceptances from few that can raise the talent level. So far I'm waiting to be impressed with any aspect of his program. I hope he proves up to the job. So far all I've heard were a lot of complaints from his staff. C'Mon guys, give us something to believe in. liljc
I find it interesting (terrible) that not one person (with the possible exception of timmyboy) has bothered to welcome Billy Harmon, a local kid, into the fold. Is he the next Jason Taylor or Dwight Smith, probably not, but the cynics on here are a little bit hard to take sometimes. Congrats, Billy, welcome to UA, I wish you well. Pre-season accolades and ranking are essentially worthless. If they were a slam-dunk, Brookhart would have won a National Championship. And Bobby Hendry would have toted nothing but a water bucket. It will be fun to watch him in his senior season. Pre-season accolades and ranking are essentially worthless. If they were a slam-dunk, Brookhart would have won a National Championship. And Bobby Hendry would have toted nothing but a water bucket. While I agree the measure of one's heart isn't captured by the "numbers", wasn't he a senior last year? So I'm wondering if he might be a preferred walk-on, or perhaps RI held back a scholarship for a kid like this. Whether it be Pitt, Tulsa, Cincy, etc. there are many examples of local kids contributing in some way to a football team through shear hard work and determination. ZachTheZip
Rasor had a good thought on his blog. Harmon is likely receiving Erick Howard's scholarship. What's interesting is that we went with a LB instead of an RB. Maybe coach I's opinion of what the team needs in the future has changed now that he has gone through spring training. I think with the #20-something scholarship to give, you take the best available remaining player.
FBJunkie
From what I know Billy Harmon will be a walk on at the University of Akron. He was 1st team All District and 2nd team All State at Linebacker. However, I believe his value to Akron will be at the Fullback position. At 6' 235 lbs he packs a wallop and has more than adequate speed and quickness for the FB position. He played FB as a Junior but played LB almost exclusively his senor year (his junior highlights on scoutingohio.com show some of his fullback highlights)

Since everybody gets an equal shot this training camp, no matter their year or past depth chart position, Billy has as much of an opportunity as any player on the team to become a contributor.
