Jawon Chisholm passes summer class and gets called up an hour later by UA.

Should be here by tomorrow.

ESPN recruiting site had him down with 40 time of 4.86 and no other offers - wonder why the Zips are so high on him??

Look at the "Interest" schools on the Scout and Rivals site. He's probably the most highly-recruited kid in our 2010 class?

Congratulations Jawon. You win the Zips coveted '2010 FPHRI Award' (Zips Freshman with the Highest Resolution Photo on the Internet) 2000 x 1800 pixels (make sure you click once to enlarge) He just got in before the voting closed.

"It totally surprised me. I knew they were heavy on me and said they would stick by me," said Chisholm, who rushed for more than 1,000 yards each of his two seasons and averaged 8.2 yards per carry. "I got played by so many Division I schools, I wasn’t sure what was going on." Syracuse, Connecticut, Bowling Green and Maryland were all in the mix during the spring and summer. But a problem with a ninth grade health class held up Chisholm officially graduating from Harrisburg until a week ago. Chisholm was all set to attend Hargrave Military Academy in the fall, and see what his options were after the season. Akron changed those plans in a hurry.

Wow...seems like a good kid that really appreciates the opportunity.

6/6'1 200-210 lb RB that Maryland, UConn, Syracuse and BG had interest in..yeah, sounds like a kid we could use.

Even without Howard, this looks to be a nice stable of 4-5 RBs we brought in (Bowers, Turpin, Staten, Washington and Chisholm). Though there doesn't appear to be a speedster in the group, nice mix of size and power in these guys. Have to figure 1-2 of them will get some carries.

May have to take back my speed comment= 4.47 according to Rivals..not too bad for a 6'0 200+ lbs kid

Looks pretty big and fast in this video (intersting other videos there which might not be best for work)...nice catching and even some throwing in there!:

I don't think Staten is going to make it. But we do have a good stable of young RBs to take over after Allen graduates.

4.47(Rivals) gets me excited - 4.86 (ESPN) not so much. I think the ESPN times come from the SPARQ Combines that they hold and are laser times - not sure where Rivals obtains their stats. Heres hoping that he's closer to 4.47 than the 4.86!!!

Well he ran a 100 yd touchdown in about 10.5-11 seconds in the video, so I'm inclined to go with the Rivals speed.

ESPN makes the statement that he looks faster on the field.

He actually looks like a true 6'1. Taller guys sometimes, even with the long strides, don't time out as well.

Football speed is all the matters.

Anyone know much about the competition? I know PA has a lot of good HS football.

Nice pickup! I am excited that Akron is getting good press for proactive recruiting. We called him within an hour of him getting his transcript!! That's some dilligent work by Zips recruiter/scouts.

Hoping to see him play soon.

Go Zips.

Very solid player. His speed seems to lack that burst, but his size can make up for it. Some people are really fast, but small, so they're easier to take down. This guy has decent speed, but is big, which is going to make it tough to take him down. Well done Zips recruiting.

You can't coach size and speed, but someone has to teach him where to carry the ball. Too many video highlights running left with ball tucked in right arm. Even D1 schools in the MAC will take the ball from him.

I like Alex Allen, but you are assuming that he stays healthy for the entire season. We need solid running backs now! Additionally, I was in the FB office the other day and Broderick Alexander has a boot on his leg and not the kind you can run in.

Welcome aboard, moe! I like what I've seen out of Jawon on film. I was hoping he'd get the ball some in the scrimmage on the 21st. Do you think he'll be redshirted this year?
