Or not.

GZDC has written nothing on the football team since August 25th. A D-1 A football program playing a BCS program at home, and it is 6-days-and-counting with absolutely zero promotion or information from what is obviously the 3rd ... maybe 4th most popular place to read about Zips athletics.

Outdated roster. No 2-deep...

They should be kissing our feet that ZipsNation promotes this freaking team.

I have noticed an extremely subtle change on the football page at GoZips.com today. The former heading of "2009 Media Guide" now merely reads "Media Guide". Of course, if you click on this you still only have access to the 2009 (and years prior) media guide. I guess it indicates, along with the addition of the 4 un-numbered freshmen who were added to the roster recently, that SOMEONE is making changes to the site, albeit at a snail's pace.

It would be nice if they could post a media guide for 2010. There have been some changes since last year's edition.

I have officially asked the AD...or whoever answers the mail.

It's time to fire some people in the athletic department, and I think TW should be the first to go. Ever since he has arrived the entire athletic department has been run like Jones Junior High. With all the investment the University has made in athletic facilities, this is inexcusable. We need someone in charge that will demand excellence in ALL aspects of the department, and TW never has... apparently he's not that kinda guy.

I am under the impression that many of the recent openings in the Athletic Department have been filled by internal candidates. Did they ever go out and replace the openings after the promotions?

According to the ua employment site, the answer is they are working on it as a position is posted.

No esta' bien, Jalapeño Zippy.

I tend to agree. However, I would like to come to the defense of Jones Jr High. I'm sure that every once in a while, the administrator at JJH makes a good decision. I'm still waiting for a good decision by TW.

I still have not forgotten the Reno disaster that basically ruined the career of a good guy. If Karma does exist, TW will get fired and never come close to having a good job again.

A friend told me that Reno is putting his West Point Engineering degree to use, and is working in Louisiana/Alabama area (subcontracted by BP to work with them on the oil spill clean up). He's doing well.

Great news! Maybe TW could go to work for him bagging tar balls.

I'm sure you know Cap'n, but for the ZNers who don't know, Reno was actually very successful outside of football before he came to the Zips. He was returning from a business conference at a resort on the beach when he happened to sit next to a recently hired JD Brookhart on a plane. They began talking and Reno told him how much he missed football. JD extended him an invitation to become a GA.

Reno had a 6 figure salary as a man in his mid 20's. He left that behind to work for free graduate classes and a 10,000 dollar stipend, all because he loved the game. He gave a huge sacrifice for the University and the game of football, and what did he get in return? Screwed by some new high on his hourse AD, who at this point we know to be completely incompetent. I'm glad to hear Reno's back to the real world and doing well, he deserves it.

Like I have said many times. That site sucks.

Too bad nobody here knows anyone in charge there or the SID.

Wow... I normally take pride in my spelling and grammar. That would be HORSE.... H-O-R-S-E. I apologize to all of Zipsnation.org for that eye sore of spelling I subjected you all to. It won't happen again.

I am certain not to play you any shooting basketball games.

Well, maybe we can play pigg.

There is a rough draft of the roster on the site now in need of some serious attention. I noticed that the previous media guides were posted aroung August 17th. Threre is still time to get these done.

The correct roster is included in the game notes now.

A couple of things stand out to me.

1. Kevin Davis has been moved to LB. I thought he was EASILY our biggest hitter in the secondary last year. Even though he's a back-up LB, I think this is a good solution for the LB depth issue.

2. Does Hazime just keep getting bigger? 6'5" 279 LB....now THAT'S what I call a good sized DE. I have to figure he is one of those that "took well to" Cochran's strength training. IIRC, Hasan was a"young" true FR. We might have landed a gem here.

3. I'm still concerned about the offensive line, as is the staff I'm sure. We CAN'T have any more injuries on Saturday and expect them to perform well against what is expected to be a very good SU defense.

4. We're "down" to 7 tight ends on the roster

I'm also puzzled with all the TE's. Some really good athletes are listed at TE - not that that in itself is a problem, but I can't help but feel that some of these athletes could be contributing elsewhere instead of riding the bench behind whoever wins the TE spot. I'm specifically thinking of Will Fleming being moved from LB to TE. I thought he had a lot of potential as a nice-sized and athletic LB (this especially concerns me due to our lack of depth @ LB). Richard Hall is the other. He came is as a highly touted DE (I get more excited about DE's than TE's). I know he won the starting TE spot as a true freshman, which is very impressive. But I'd be more excited if his 6-3, 230 lbs. was rushing the opposing QB off the edge.

I was excited about the prospects of Anthony Ritossa coming in as a TE. But apparently, from all the position shuffling the coaches have done, he must not be impressing at TE?

I really like Hazime. He's big, and fast. If I were to place a dark hourse ( :D ) bet on the Biggest Pleasant Surprise of 2010, it would be for Hassan. The 4-3 suits him perfectly.

I feel the same way. Switching guys from other positions to a position of strength is a little odd.
