Captain Kangaroo
Referees? Thug play? Classless fans? Wah wah wah... Ohio State was down 1 man for a significant portion of the game, and the Zips couldn't do squat with the advantage. Allowing a goal with 2 seconds on the clock, to a short-handed team? That's terrible. Call a spade-a-spade -- The #1 ranked Zips laid an egg last night. It happens...man-up and accept it. There could be bigger eggs laid than tying the #19 ranked team 2-2. 11 consecutive shutouts against insanely tough competition is pretty amazing. Time to re-group and start another streak. mes102
We're you there CK...with the way OSwho was playing, someone could of gotten severly hurt and hurt our chances... We did lay an egg last night...I'm not saying we didn't (i thought i did say we played sloppy), but to be honest, my 10 yeart old brother could of officiated better...I might just be really mad because the one line judge blew the rowdies a kiss after the game...and we had OSwho students walking past us saying that we played dirty...I'm just not going to back down... This will be a "wake-up" call for this team...it put a taste in their mouths that they haven't felt for a long time, and I'm sure that they'll be more focused this friday, than they were last night... meatwad
We're you there CK...with the way OSwho was playing, someone could of gotten severly hurt and hurt our chances... I was there. You are exaggerating. The officials had NOTHING to do with us tying last night. OSU got the red card they deserved. Barson's yellow was lame, but it didn't affect anything. Neither OSU goal was a result of a bad call. We scored on a PK that was the right call. Stop exaggerating and pretending they were out to get us because the ref actually had some fun with you after the game. Get over it.
jem101
There's a saying that if you played poorly enough to let the refs decide the game for you, you don't deserve to win. I gotta agree with that. The fact is, if we played like we did against Tulsa we would have blown OSU away. The annoying thing is that on those goals, 95% of the time our defenders get those balls cleared away. Just so happened that it happened twice in one game. This may even serve as a wakeup call, and end up being a good thing for this team As I was walking across campus today all ticked off about last night, I had to smile. We're all pissed because we tied a game against a quality side. It's exciting to have a team that we expect perfection from night in and night out. This is just one small misstep on the way to the College Cup and . Go Zips!
skip-zip
Just got back from C-bus. The back line didn't communicate very well tonight, and is ultimately the reason we tied. That being said, the referee was a joke, Akron guys would get pushed around, and when we'd push back, the ref would call a foul on us. This was routine. The yellow that he handed out to Caldwell was an absolute joke. OSWho played a pretty dirty game. That red card was one of the dirtier plays I've ever seen. Nagbe was dribbling up the middle of the pitch, when he was tripped up. While he was laying on the ground the Suckeye turned around and fired a laser at Nagbe's head from about 10 feet away. It was blatant and disgusting. Not sure if the NCAA hands out multi game suspensions, but this guy deserves one. Then as the carded player was walking off the field a large number of OSU fans were giving him a standing O. Totally classless. I hope we get them again in the tourney and destroy them. People wonder why so many hate OSU fans... Seems like further confirmation of what I've already believed for years in my own experiences. I'm sure they don't like that in recent years Akron soccer has burst their "We are the almighty elite sports school of Ohio" bubble. If 7,000 people were there, I think it shows that not only do they hate losing to us, but couldn't stand losing their self-proclaimed elite superiority to another school in Ohio. Not that it necessarily decided the game. But, if this is how their players/fans behaved, it is not one bit of a surprise.
akronad
My hats off to the Zip's. Think about how great things have been and will continue to be. We lost nothing last night. It is a wake up call to everyone on the team, players and coaches. And playing in front of 7,000 fans is fantastic. it doesn't matter if it is OSU or anyone else, that is a fantastic crowd for a week night match. Again, congrat's to the soccer team, and let's continue the road to the Championship.

Perhaps so many showed up to watch the #1 ranked team in the nation play soccer. Just a thought. I can't speak for anyone else, but if Alabama was playing at the Info, I would certainly be there. Some would take that as a compliment to the teams success. Others....well.

tpsjugglerdude
Osu made most of their sports teams show up. Even members from two of their other teams came over and told us their team was dirty. The refs were terrible we should have had at least one if not two more pks. Yes we did miss several great oppirtunities though.
MDZip
7,000 fans for a mid-week college soccer match? I think that might be considered a rivalry. Well, at least it would be if it wasn't so one-sided. 24-6-3 now.
zip37
I'm still in a funk, it FEELS like a loss, that being said, that's a great sign, because we EXPECT to win, as does the TEAM [maybe that was part if not all of the problem]. But a short handed goal really hurts. We'll just have to start another shut out run.
RootforRoo44
2-2 final. RootforRoo44
I used to officiate soccer games for a recreational league for 5 years(until college), and last night was one of the worse referee performances I have ever seen... I don't know how many people know this, but one of the line judges actually blew the AK-Rowdies a kiss after we were booing them...and they were clapping and shaking hands with a couple workers at OSU during halftime and overtime... Our sloppy play + OSwho's thugness(i would put above singletipsy) + referee's trying to keep OSwho in the game = a tie couldnt have said it any better. Anyone who was actually at the game would have seen exactly that. OSU is a DIRTY team.
akronad
Teams are only as "dirty" as the officlas let them. Like basketball, some officials, call a tight game and whistle every little thing. Whereas, other officials, will call the game loosely, and not blow the whistle until someone has gotten royally mugged. Neither is a position that I condone. However, this is the "human element" to the game and unless someone can come with a better way, we have to let those that play and officiate continue. I hope the Zips learned something from this game!!! the only thing the zips learned is "dont except to get ANY calls when you play the Buckeyes" Yes, there were no penalty kicks awarded to the Zips or red cards doled out to the Buckeyes. We played a lousy game, get over it.

This wasn't a loosely officated game, this was a case of the Buckeyes pushing us around and when we attempted to push back WE GOT whistled and/or carded. The red card was one of the most blatant acts of unsportsmanlike conduct i've ever witnessed and to be honest, two of their players should have been ejected from that as another one took a swing at one of our players. Like i said before, anyone that was there saw how bad it was.

I saw some lousy calls go both ways... and the refs had N-O-T-H-I-N-G to do with last night's result. Lack of focus, shoddy execution, and an entirely too passive approach with a one-goal lead had everything to do with it.

Big Zip
In one of Caleb's interviews previously he indicated that this was what he expected from teams in the MAC. He said the Zips are small and the bigger teams try to muscle them and they need to stay on their game and make the other team change their approach. Ultimately this is one game, but this is not going to be an isolated way people are going to play the Zips so they need to get used to it and win the game. Simple enough doesn't matter if it was dirty or not they still have to win this game.

I certainly wouldn't want to face a team like that for the first time in the tourney. Again, it's a learning experience. This tie has a silver lining in my opinion. We fell into their trap and tried to beat them at their own game and when we went up 2-1, we backed-off and didn't demonstrate the killer instinct needed to be champions. Let's learn this difficult lesson early and grow on it.
