gozips19
haven't posted anything in awhile because there really hasn't been anything to post. the team can't put a full game together and its hard to watch this team. during the season many on the board have asked for the freshman to get more playing time and start looking at next season. this has been happening more frequently as most of Ianello's 2010 class have seen the field. while watching the temple niu game a few weeks back they talked about how temple won just 1 (maybe 2) games in golden's first year and played a ton of freshman. this worked out very well for temple but it did upset their fan base. my questions to the board are: 1. what do you think of Ianello's class so far? 2. what freshman are standing out so far? 3. do you think he's doing the right thing playing most of the kids and burning their red shirt (some are just playing special teams). 4. is this the fastest way to rebuilding the program? i have always thought and with some of the talks (limited at best) i've had with either staff or people in the ad confirmed that Ianello knew there was no talent on this team and that he needed to play his guys asap to speed up the development of the program. while i may not agree with some of his concepts i can at least give the man some time to executed his plan. i just wish there were a few wins mixed in with the plan. skip-zip
I think one glaring difference between us and the Temple teams of a few years ago is that we are losing with upperclassman starters. And we've already been blown out by a MAC team, and have the potential to see more of those before the misery subsides in late November. If we are that void of talent, I do want to see the younger guys start playing sooner rather than later. The question is, are these guys potentially better than the upperclassmen we have on the field now? If not, the misery could go on for quite a few years before we start to turn in another direction. Blue & Gold
Sadly, to answer Question #2, Giorgio Bowers really stood out to me, and well, we know what happend to him. Anthony Holmes really passes the eyeball test. And I suppose my pleasant surprise of the class thus far would be ShelDon Miller.

RACER
the younger guys are not going to get better by sitting on the bench.this season is over anyways.i am not saying bench all the seniors.try to get some playing time for the younger players though.we will end up with a bunch of guys next year with no experience.guys need to know what it takes to play d-1 ball for next year. they will never find that out on the bench.the one thing rob I better find is a jc qb.i am not sure the coaching staff has any confidence in any of our qb right now. skip-zip
After last night's loss, ICoach said something about evaluating every position on the team this coming week. Doesn't that seem like a major shift from all of the "we just need to get better" talk we've been hearing so far? I loved Allman's comments in the post game show about the QB position. I think he's right on the money.

I think he's right on the money. I agree. Alleman's comments were very insightful. I like how he noted that "Coaches often fall in love with potential as opposed to production." I had never heard that before, but it makes a lot of sense. I also liked hearing his opinion on Rogers, "I think Matt Rogers can be a successful MAC quarterback." He doesn't think Rogers is the next coming of Joe Montana, but he believes Rogers can offer consistency, and that is really what the team needs right now. He was also very gracious with Nicely, reminding listeners that in a stronger program, Nicely would merely be a redshirt freshman QB still learning from the sideline. I really like the job he's doing. You can tell he can't be as blunt as he would probably like, but he's still honest and you can tell he has a passion for the Zips. Good stuff. Yea, Andy is doing an outstanding job so far, very refreshing. I really like the experience and insight he brings to the booth, I learn something listening to him. My guess is he can't be too blunt as this is his first year, but hopefully it will get better. I think he's got a bright future .

Ianello finally got smart and is allegedly going to play more underclassmen. Sorry that some of the SRS and JRS may not like it but they have been here under two different coaches and it hasn't happened. I am not sold on Ianello by any stretch. But, the program needs to figure out what it needs for the next 2-3 years,NOW. It can't gonna get any worse. Look out 0-12.

And Frenchy responds to Dunn with "There's no doubt about it" one out of every three times. If it were a drinking game you'd end up with alcohol poisoning. ZachTheZip
So, I wanted to find a list of true freshmen and JUCOs showing who has played and who has redshirted. There is no such list but here's my best guess. I can't find any statistics on OL play but I don't recall seeing any freshmen playing in that unit. Played: FB Austin Bailey DE Nick Caponi CB Seth Cunningham TE Richard Hall S Anthony Holmes DB ShelDon Miller LB Nolan Plate WR Antoine Russell WR Keith Sconiers OL Patrick McCloskey (JUCO) Not played: LB Clay Cameron QB Adam Charles RB Jawon Chisholm OT Micah Lio PK John Long QB Dylan Potts TE Anthony Ritossa WR Anthony Schrock S L.T. Smith LB Darius Washington LB Jamar Williams CB Miklos Blake (JUCO) WR Marquelo Suel (JUCO) Players who have stood out to me are Bailey, Hall, Holmes, and Miller. I'm left wondering why JUCOs Blake and Suel haven't played considering the lack of playmakers at their positions. I also thought Schrock and Ritossa would have played by this point. That looks about right to me. I pretty much agree with your list of players who have stood out. Nick Caponi has also made a few plays this year, from the Indiana game on. Suel and Blake are mysteries and this is particularly concerning for any hopes that iCoach might be able to land a solid JUCO class in 2011.
