The Bluejays were fast and quick, they went toe to oe w/the Zips, but about 5 min into 2nd half, we started to keep the ball in their half [as usual] and the pressure got to them, after seeing them, I would rate them highet than #9.:bow: In addition, their GK was VERY GOOD, he made a lot of saves.

Darren definitely showed his inexperience tonight. He had some excellent opportunities that he was unable to capitalize on. At one point I could hear some of the Akron guys yelling at him to stop being lazy. He still has loads of potential, but definitely an off night for him. Balogun did a good job coming in for Kofi, but definitely did not provide the same energy and pressure. This game was a nail biter and frustrating at times, but good to come out with a win against a good opponent. Excellent performance by Creighton.

Creighton anticipated our passes MUCH better than any opponent thus far. They are a talented, well-coached team. It wouldn't break my heart to not see them again this year.

BUT, I DO hope we get a game in Omaha on the schedule sometime soon. As pointed out by another poster recently, that Morrison Stadium is one fine college soccer facility!

I know we went to OT vs Penn State, and we tied OSU, but Creighton is the toughest team we played so far. They played their game and didn't give in to packing it in like a lot of other teams do. I was really impressed with their effort. Especially the first 20 minutes or so, they actually maintained most of the possession with a high pressure defense. As the game went on they did seem to wear down, and by the second half we were dominating possession as usual. I won't mind avoiding them in the Tourney. Of course, with the #1 team, I'm not scared of anyone, but the easier the path the better.

As a side note, the pitch was terrible last night. There were players slipping all over the place, and Meves had a couple close calls. I hope that doesn't cost us a goal come tournament time.

I agree. It was great to see an opponent play like the Zips at our place. What a fun match to watch. I would love to see the Zips play them again in the near future; well worth a trip to Omaha.

I’ll preface this by saying I have complete faith in Caleb’s coaching ability and tactics. But am I the only one who wondered last night why, on 3 or 4 occasions, our forwards allowed Creighton’s keeper to casually dribble the ball pretty far out of the box without even token pressure? This effectively led to several free kicks taken from a spot not too far from mid-field, and the last one nearly cost us. Any team, no matter how skillful, can be vulnerable in the air. I hope we don’t see much of that any more.

This game was a bit of a wake-up call for the players, and that's a good thing. It shows them that there are other teams out there who play nearly the same style as they do to nearly as great an effect. The players need to work to become stronger, faster, and even more focused and tenacious than before. That game could easily have gone either way.

I was at the game last night. Another really nerve-wracking game to watch. I could tell the crowd was getting a little anxious. Another great turnout with I believe over 3,000 people. There were moments were the Zips were careless with the ball, but they hung on. The field was very slippery as players were falling all over the place. I do think games like this will help the Zips as they should know that these are the kind of games to expect in the tournament. They do need to clean up the ball passing and not make silly mistakes. Still, good hard fought game, even though Creighton started to get a bit rough in the second half. A couple of their guys got yellow carded including their coach. One of their players got red carded too. Again, another hard fought game. Keep it up Zips. Hope Kofi is ok.

Ck....you have an old url for the Creighton Board. They moved to Rivals. Try : http://creighton.rivals.com/forum.asp

Thanks for posting it. I was curious to see what their fans has to say. They seem like they have a knowlegable, solid following.

I'd say they are something that Akron could be. A decent sized city with a good following for it's local University.

They have 1/4 of the student population of Akron but an amazing following locally.

On another note, alot of people have been mentioning lately (including the Creighton fans) that the pitch looks like it's in bad shape. I personally think it looks fine, and recently have had the chance to walk a good deal of it, but it sure as hell seems like we've been slipping a lot.

it rained like a mother the day before. Im sure even with perfect drainage the field is going to be a bit slick they day after.

The pitch is freshly laid sod (this summer).

Add in the recent rain and the lack of deep roots to hold the grass and you get a minor disaster.

Creighton need not complain. Having watched the game live and on replay I would say that the

Zips did a lot more slipping and sliding than the Jays did.

Creighton is a private Catholic university. Good school in a great city (Omaha). I worked for a

summer in near by Bellvue then home of the Strategic Air Command. I could tell you what I did

there, but, then I'd have to kill you.
