RowdyZip
700 Thanksgiving meals to Urban League families Congrats on the PR 'Bron. This is the monetary equal of you or I giving a handful of change to that guy on the street.
Dr Z
This is the monetary equal of you or I giving a handful of change to that guy on the street.Maybe it's more about the time and effort than the money. James said he’s overseeing next week’s Akron events from afar. The families chosen to be part of the Thanksgiving giveaway are connected to the Urban League and the Akron Public School system. “Even though I’m not going to be there, I was on all the calls and making sure everything is ran right,” James said. “I mean, it’s not like I’m a rookie to the whole situation. I kind of know what needs to be done.”

ZippyforPresident
LeBron Donates 1,000 Computers to Akron Public Schools Not sure if this has been posted already, but like him or dislike him, you have to admit that's a genuinely nice thing to do for a school system that can really use the help. I saw this one too. Unfortunately, even though he did these things types of things for his hometown of AKRON, even before he left the city up north and took his talents to South Beach ( ) now all the folks in Akron who still have an identity crisis & are Cleveland wanna-be's will always play the "just a PR move" card. LeBron can't win - damned if he does; damned if he doesn't

Hey Root4Roo, I love Akron Sports NOW.com, but don't forget the first sentence of your tag-line: "NOT Cleveland."
RowdyZip
Last time I checked, Akron and Cleveland were the same pro sports market. Unless, I guess, you identify more with the folks of Appalachia like some Akronites do. Heck, most of those folks imitate mountain folk in appearance and accent. Hey Root4Roo, I love Akron Sports NOW.com, but don't forget the first sentence of your tag-line: "NOT Cleveland." lol, touché! BUT i'm not upset with LeBron because of his betrayal of Cleveland. I just think he's an ass and a bad role model. Sure he donates things here and there but i see pro athletes that do far more and have far less money. It's not about the things he does as much as the intentions, and it's downright sickening to me that he has to have a press release touting what he did. This is what a true role model does (note: he doesn't just throw money at things):

It's bizarre.

So you're saying LeBron, Rome, Dru & the Fab 5 must be appalachian mountain folk? Or at least identify with that sub-culture? Hmm. Well, at least you get points for trying. Zippysgotagun
I'm not passing judgment on this either way, but when I see in every article that all of this "stuff" (bike-a-thon, computers for the schools, meals like this) is through The Lebron James Family Foundation, I have to wonder if any of this money is coming straight from his pocket. I also wonder how much of it is tax-deductible if it is coming from his pocket. Don't get me wrong, it's good "stuff"...APS needs the computers, needy families need a good thanksgiving meal, etc...but I think occasionally he gets a bit too much credit just because his name is attached to it. You do realize that would have been declared blasphemous about 6 months ago? Funny how things change when a guy shows his true colors.
