johnnyzip84
I watched some of the championship against Huggins' WVU squad, and the Gophers front line of Mbakwe, Sampson III, and Iverson are going to be a HUGE challenge for the Zips. Here is CNNSI's coverage.
Quickzips
These next couple of weeks are going to be a huge challenge for the Zips. Probably one of the most challenging parts of an OOC schedule we've seen under KD. We play 4 out of our next five on the road. Our only home game being Wed. against a very tough Cleveland State team. Then we go out on the road against another top level Horizon team in Detroit featuring an incredibly talented freshman guard in Ray McCallum. Then it is off to the scrappy UIC team which just took a game from Rhode Island yesterday. If that wasn't enough we then head off to what could potentially be two road matchups against top-25 teams in Temple and Minnesota. The Zips have a lot of growing up to do over this five game stretch. If they can come out of this with a 3-2 record or better I think it will be a pretty big success for us. Of course after we get done with that we get a chance to take on one home cupcake in Bethune-Cookman before it is right back out on the road for the Las Vegas games. MDZip
And some people still wanted Michigan St. too?
Dave in Green
I've been underestimating Illinois-Chicago. If they beat Rhode Island, they will not be a cupcake. This is going to be one tough 5-game stretch. But it should do a good job of preparing the Zips for conference play.

Dr Z
And some people still wanted Michigan St. too?I did! +1 +2 If you think the Millipede game made us a better team, I disagree.

No, I'd have much rather seen a little easier D-1 team to start, I hate the D-III games (especially considering Millikin considered it to be an exhibition). My point was that upon re-examining our schedule and with the apparent emergence of some teams that might not have been considered good when we scheduled them (Detroit, Youngstown, UIC) along with some of the better teams (Minnesota, Temple, Dayton) our schedule is a lot harder than it appeared on the surface. Other than that I'd have loved to have had MSU.

If we played MSU tonight, we would have won.

The Hip Zip
The Minny/W. VA. game was perhaps the best game I've seen in this young season. I was very impressed with the Rodents. They are long, can bang, run and match up with most anybody.
johnnyzip84
Watching Minnesota play again tonight, this time against "just plain" Virginia I know UVa isn't that good right now, but wow the Gophers sure look good. They impressed me a lot on a neutral floor, but playing them in Minneapolis seems to be just that much more difficult. I honestly think they deserve some consideration as being perhaps the best team in the country. Edit: Of course, just after I write this I may be seeing a "chink in their armor".......defending the 3-ball. UVa's Farrakhan (Louis' grandson) has not been stopped thus far from long range. johnnyzip84
Looks like my "kiss of death" is still going strong! Minny now struggling to simply keep the lead!
Dave in Green
Hope KD is keeping notes on what Virginia is doing in the second half. Cavs up by 10 with 7 minutes left.
Dave in Green
Minnies score 10 more than Ginnies in the first half, but are outscored in the second half by 18.
johnnyzip84
With our luck, Minny's point guard will be back at full strength when the Zips visit. UVa managed to hold it's own inside and force the Gophers to make shots - they couldn't.
