Hilltopper
Here's an interesting new wrinkle in the ongoing Auburn investigation, which many believe will uncover more dirt than at tOSU. A savvy investigative reporter dug deep into the Auburn official website, and found financial records showing that Auburn has paid tens of thousands of dollars to attractive coeds to act as escorts for football prospects. Auburn immediately removed the cited financial information from their website, but not before it was captured and exposed. The NCAA will no doubt find this of some interest. Auburn Payroll: Tens of Thousands To Hostesses This is very common at big time programs. Not really a scandal. Sounds like legalised prostitution to me. johnnyzip84
The Jan. 28, 2011, Plainsman piece on Tigerettes also mentioned Auburn football recruiting hostess Jamie Nolen: Jamie Nolen, senior in public relations and third-year Tigerette, said her friends give her a hard time because she doesn’t come home enough. “I love it so much, so I’ll be up here until three o’clock in the morning if I need to get something right. I’ll put in extra time,” Nolen said. I didn't need any convincing that SEC football is consistently the best in the country, but this gives some more insight as to why. No wonder for years and years the only NFL team in the "south" was the Redskins.

Auburn Payroll: Tens of Thousands To Hostesses This is very common at big time programs. Not really a scandal. Sounds like legalised prostitution to me. Maybe. Or, none of these girls are putting out. Or, when they do put out, it is not part of the gig they are being compensated. The hostesses at Auburn have been around since the 1970s. I guess if there was some prostitution going on, it would have seen the light by now. Many on this board are used to the mac where you couldn't get enough girls at any one school interested in doing something like this to have a hostess program. That isn't the case at bcs level schools. I worked with a lady once who did this at Florida. It is very common. She wasn't the type of lady who would have put out for money or the school. I'm sure it isn't too hard to find a skank outside of the hostess program to bang a recruit if you needed. Getting one of the hostesses to do it wouldn't be necessary. Hilltopper
I guess if you're a perennial 8-5 program, you get a pass. UNC

Hilltopper
Add the Miami Hurricanes to the list of cheaters. Renegade Miami football booster spells out illicit benefits to players In 100 hours of jailhouse interviews during Yahoo! Sports’ 11-month investigation, Hurricanes booster Nevin Shapiro described a sustained, eight-year run of rampant NCAA rule-breaking, some of it with the knowledge or direct participation of at least seven coaches from the Miami football and basketball programs. At a cost that Shapiro estimates in the millions of dollars, he said his benefits to athletes included but were not limited to cash, prostitutes, entertainment in his multimillion-dollar homes and yacht, paid trips to high-end restaurants and nightclubs, jewelry, bounties for on-field play (including bounties for injuring opposing players), travel and, on one occasion, an abortion
Dave in Green
I reluctantly had to give up on reading the message thread that was following developments in Alabama. A bunch of Auburn trolls moved in and started posting thousands of messages, spamming it up to the point that it took an hour or more a day to read without any salient details. I'm now just waiting along with everyone else for any developments that might be important enough to make the national sports news. In any case, there are plenty of genuine, certified football scandals to follow that have broken since I started this thread, so "potential" scandals can go on the back burner. Sergeant Zip
Bobby Lowder's time is up on the Auburn Board. Senate approves the five new trustees.
Dave in Green
From the story above: His meddling with academic and athletic programs, particularly football, is one of legend. Lowder’s attempt to oust Tommy Tuberville as head football coach – interviewing another coach while Tuberville was preparing for the Iron Bowl -- at the end of the 2003 season remains a sore subject. The coach who Lowder interviewed in 2003 was none other than Bobby Petrino, who has shown over the years that he had the perfect moral character to be part of Lowder's Auburn empire. When asked about the interview with Lowder, Petrino swore it never happened. Then a reporter confronted him with a copy of the flight records and passenger manifests of the aircraft used to ferry people to the airport meeting, and Petrino had to admit the truth. Petrino's latest problem and attempted coverup at Arkansas comes as no big surprise.

Sergeant Zip
I know this was already mentioned elsewhere but Lowder was not mentioned yet in the recent Auburn scandal.
