Cleveland State Game

Undefeated CSU rolls into the JAR tonight! First time Gary Waters has visited our hallowed confines since the immortal Dan Hipsher was raining f-bombs like Jose Davis rained 3's.

Battle for NE Ohio supremacy... both coaches looking for career win #250.

Packed house.

This is really as big a game as you will see in the JAR, sans K.e.n.t., or the once every 8 years that Temple makes the trip to Akron.

Hard to believe it has taken until 11 hours prior to tip-off to get a thread started?

Dambrot won't admit it publicly... but this game is his definitive measuring stick. He's gotta want the "W" in the worst way...

Pomeroy currently ranks CSU #87 and the Zips #143. The KenPom formula predicts a 68-67 CSU victory, but with the Zips having a 46% chance of winning. I'd say that's close enough to even that the team that wants it the most and puts out the most effort -- especially on defense -- is likely to win.

If the Zips play as they did against Dayton, they're in this one all the way. If they play like they did against YSU, it will be ugly.

I'm pumped for this one.

Disappointed that I will be out of town for this one, but hope to follow it closely just the same. It would be nice if Nik & Nitro continue to put the ball in the hoop, but I agree with most that the game will be won by the team what rebounds and defends better. I predict a "semi-break-out" game from Abreu.....say 8 points and 7 assists.

I'm pumped for this game. It's going to be another good measuring stick of how the Zips are doing before they start their 4 game road swing.

I feel good about the Zips chances. They've had a few days to work on the results of the YSU game, and they're going to have a big crowd.

I like the Zips to win this in regulation.

B) B) B)

Go Zips!!

I too was wondering if there was a pre-Thanksgiving coma going around zn, Captain. Posting in general seems to be down this week. Perhaps travel is interfering with the posting habits of some of the regulars.

Definitely stoked for this game and ready to see a Viking beatdown.

Prediction:

Zips 77

CSU 69

This Monday on Zips Live I believe I heard Dambrot mention Abreu twisted his ankle in practice (or something to that extent) but hopefully it's nothing. I think the crowd will be much smaller than it should be for a game of this magnitude. The Zips have what it takes to win this game they just need to find a good rhythm on offense, connecting from both inside and out without getting sloppy.

Looking forward to this game tonight as well from a CSU perspective. This game will really let us know where we stand as a basketball team too. Yes, CSU is unbeaten, but Akron is by far the best team we have played to date. To me, this game may be decided down low. The Zeke Marshall vs. Aaron Pogue matchup will be huge and will have a great effect on the outcome. Pogue has a lot of talent, but tends to get in foul trouble and when Pogue is not in the game, CSU is very vulnerable because of the injury of D'Aundray Brown.

However, Norris Cole is probably the best individual player the Zips will see this season. He is a stud and if he is hot he could easily go for 35 tonight. He loves the big games.

With this being said, I like the Zips by 3.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Maybe have Coach Porter come into the locker room and tell the guys how painful it was when CSU upset UA's soccer team, and urge them to defend UA's honor by doing the same to CSU's higher-ranked basketball team.

I wonder how well CSU fans travel, and how many to expect tonight?

I predict 4,200 combined attendance.

Strong words. Good for CSU if he's even in the top 3 or 4 individual players the Zips see.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Thank you .. and the same back at you.

Go Zips!

Dayton's Chris Wright is rated by DraftExpress as the 22nd best college senior NBA prospect in the country, and is ranked the 83rd best overall NBA prospect. No sign of Norris Cole in their top 100. That doesn't mean Cole might not be an excellent player. But it does seem to indicate that Wright may be the best single player the Zips face this season.

DraftExpress

EDIT: Oops, DraftExpress ranks Detroit PG Ray McCallum as the 30th best overall NBA prospect. No one on the Zips schedule this season ranks higher.

I say 3,400 (paid) with at least 200 no-shows in lower reserved because some of the really old people will stay home to start preparing for out-of-town visitors.

I really hope a decent amount of students stick around for this one.

RIght now on ESPN Cleveland 850AM Michael Reghai (via telephone) is talking up the game with host and Ken+ grad Greg Brinda.

Started with praise for both Dambrot and Waters. Glad he's spent more time talking Akron though, and the overall state of the MAC.

He said it's notable that in recent memory there has been close to no NBA talent in the conference, and the lack of individual names has been complicit in making us a one bid conference.

Finally, he said that he hopes that Zeke is the end of the MAC/NBA drought. Me too!!!

GO ZIPS.
