MDZip Posted December 17, 2010 Report Posted December 17, 2010 There are only two sports "in the barn", cross country and soccer, but in the Capital One Cup standings (for all sports) the Zips are the current leaders. Don't think it's likely we'll pick up any more points this year but it sure looks nice right now, doesn't it? Quote

Don't think it's likely we'll pick up any more points this year but it sure looks nice right now, doesn't it? We should stay at least in the top 3 until the winter sports are over due to the fact that only the football "Champ" will get more points than us. Pretty cool to see. If we stay top 10 then the University gets something for it. Well done soccer team. Quote
ZachTheZip Posted December 17, 2010 Report Posted December 17, 2010 We have the potential for a few individual NCAA winners in Track and Rifle, with a little luck. That could get us some points. Any team that makes it to the NCAA tournament in their sport gets a point, I believe. We won't win this thing, but with a good year from the winter and spring sports we could manage to be in the top 10. I still prefer the Directors Cup as a measure, but only the winner gets something from them. Quote
akzipper Posted December 18, 2010 Report Posted December 18, 2010 Does anyone know how OSwho and Can't are doing? oh that's right they aren't even on that list....too bad Quote
zippyfan34 Posted January 1, 2011 Report Posted January 1, 2011 Check out Sportscenter this morning. They show this leaderboard right before the top plays of 2010, about 50 past the hour. Announcers say "It's the Akron Zips with a huge lead over Louisville and North Carolina"! Quote

I missed that one, but did see a promo showing THIS year's College Cup finally (they were showing last year's final all fall). Not sure if it was Nanny or maybe Z carrying the ball. Hopefully I'll see it more times after this endless parade of crummy bowl games is over. BTW-- where did we finish overall last year? 24 pts for second in soccer, did we get any more? Quote

I think we finished with 24, the rest of our sports are kinda terrible This is because the NCAA is biased against our gun shooters. They are much better than kinda terrible. For example, last year no participants or spectators were shot by accident in over 60% of our trigger squeezing competitions. Quote

I wasn't trying to toot my own horn so sorry if it came off that way. I write for the Buchtelite as the beat writer for the men's soccer team and they contacted me one day to write for them. There's a link on the website where you can read other articles promoting the Capital One Cup. Quote

MDZip Posted January 4, 2011 Author Report Posted January 4, 2011 We'll fall to second place once the Auburn-Oregon game is completed. I read up how the Capital One Standings are conducted. All sports are not equal. There are three tiers with football, basketball and baseball on the top tier (for the men's side) and soccer with other sports on the second tier and sports like cross country and indoor track on tier 3. You get 20 points for winning a National Championship, 12 for second and so on, but you also get a multiplier, 2 times for tier 2 and 3 times for tier 1. That's how we got 40. That also means that the winner of Auburn-Oregon will get 60 points (but the loser will still be behind us with 36). Quote
