GP1 Posted January 8, 2011 Report Posted January 8, 2011 I was just on GoZips.com looking to see if the Zips were on television tonight. A lot of the remaining games are on Sports Time Ohio with at least one on ESPNU. I'm glad to see that. The MAC is a regional conference that should be on a regional television network. I'd like to know the ratings (number of viewers) STO produces for the MAC in comparison to when the games are on an ESPN network. Specifically, what is the viewer count in Ohio. My guess it is very similar. Naturally, ESPN provides more potential viewers, but I think it doesn't matter for the Zips if some guy in New Mexico watches them on TV or not. There is a guy in South Carolina who wouldn't mind watching the game at a sports bar while taking in the NFL playoffs. Is STO available nationally in any manner? Quote
Zip Watcher Posted January 8, 2011 Report Posted January 8, 2011 I would think it should be on both Dish services if they have the packages with extended sports channels .. like all the regional FSNs. Quote
MDZip Posted January 8, 2011 Report Posted January 8, 2011 STO is in Channel 431 on Dish Network, however, as I check it today, it indicates that the game is blacked out. Guess it will be channelsurfing.net for me. Arrrggghh, think I'll be dropping the extra sports package soon. Quote

ksu sucks Posted January 8, 2011 Report Posted January 8, 2011 Wait, so will the game be televised on STO if you have basic cable? Quote
OZoner Posted January 8, 2011 Report Posted January 8, 2011 I would be more curious to see how ratings compare between FSN and STO. There's no reason the game should be blacked out. That's just weird. Quote

Captain Kangaroo Posted January 8, 2011 Report Posted January 8, 2011 Direct TV channel 660 I believe. If not, it's 662. Any decent sports bar will have the feed. Quote

cjapsu Posted January 9, 2011 Report Posted January 9, 2011 I pay out my a$$ for the sports package on DirecTV so naturally it's blacked out down here in Houston, TX. Absolutely no reason for it to be, either. Quote

Absolutely no reason for it to be, either. I gave up on the Zips Zone subscription service and so far have seen just about every game on channelsurfing or the OTHER schools feed. Akron needs to do better on game access. Quote

They are too busy making their 6 dollars a month (or whatever it is) scamming people with their garbage feed rather than just giving us a decent way to watch all events. It really is stupid. Quote

Absolutely no reason for it to be, either. It was blacked out on Dish here in Maryland as well. I have no idea why but its far from the first time that's happened. Ended up watching it on channelsurfing. Will be dumping my sports package since that was primarily the reason I picked it up. Quote
MDZip Posted January 12, 2011 Report Posted January 12, 2011 I wrote to STO to see what the issue is. For all of us out of towners it dioesn't make much sense to buy the extra sports packages. This was their very polite and quick response. Per our TV rights agreement with the Mid American Conference, our LIVE MAC Football and Men's Basketball games can only be shown in the MAC's normal distribution footprint. Unfortunately, Maryland does not fall into that footprint. The MAC has a national TV rights agreement with ESPN, and those LIVE games are exclusive to ESPN's Game Plan package for Football and ESPN's Full Court package for Men's Basketball. Quote
Dr Z Posted January 12, 2011 Report Posted January 12, 2011 I'm not sure you will find Zips games on Veetle, but I recently discovered this site. It's crazy what they show on here. Works really well on the ipod too. Quote
