Zips Supporter
I know it might be a little bit early but I just felt like posting my predictions for the All-MAC 1st and 2nd teams, honorable mention, and freshmen teams. I could be wrong, who knows, but I wanted to see others' input on this. 1st team- Justin Greene (Can't State) Xavier Silas (NIU) Byron Mulkey (BUF) DJ Cooper (OU) Jarrod Jones (BSU) 2nd team- Julian Mavunga (MIA) Brandon Bowdry (EMU) Rod Sherman (Can't State) Jauwan Scaife (BSU) Zach Filzen (BUF) Honorable mention- Nik Cvetinovic (UA) Brett McClanahan (UA) Carlton Guyton (Can't State) Antonio Ballard (MIA) Nick Winbush (MIA) Malcolm Griffin (UT) Scott Thomas (BGSU) Auston Calhoun (BGSU) DeVaughn Washington (OU) Jalin Thomas (CMU) Demetrius Ward (WMU) Freshmen- Trey Zeigler (CMU) Nick Kellogg (OU) Javon McCrea (BUF) Delino Dear (UT) Juwan Howard Jr. (WMU) Nate Rucker (NIU) Cameron Black (BGSU) Alex Abreu (UA)
Captain Kangaroo
You'd have hoped Zeke would be at least honorable mention.
Zips Supporter
You'd have hoped Zeke would be at least honorable mention. The only way Zeke would be honorable mention is if Cvetinovic gets 2nd team or if Zeke gets honorable mention instead of McClanahan. Because I don't see them giving Akron 3 honorable mentions because their record isn't helping. Again, this is just all my opinion.
The Hip Zip
Bowdy is first team, no doubt about it. I also suspect that Ballard will receive more than an honorable mention. Even though his season was cut short, his game deserves respect. I also feel that grouping McClanahan and Nik in the same boat is an insult to Nik. The Serb brings far more to the table IMO. I really don't see how McClanahan deserves any post season honors. Sure, he hoists a lot of 3s and makes a lot of 3s but his 3pt % is not among the MACs top ten. Unless FT % is the most important stat, I don't get it.

Moreso maybe just because of the attention directed towards each of those guys.

That's why I think Bowdry would be on 2nd team. And Mavunga is going to get more recognition than Ballard because he has had bigger games against better teams I think. And McClanahan and Marshall's points are right there with each other but the fact that Brett's been playing more minutes might give him some leeway. And if the MAC gave Brett McKnight honorable mention in 2010, then Nik would have to get the same this year. I mean I was going back and forth with the whole thing. The Hip Zip
Hell, we could get 100 of us to try to guess at this and we would have 100 different ballots. Just playing a little devil's advocate here. Overall you did a pretty good job at a task that had to consume much more than just a few minutes. We'll have to dig this thread up to compare notes when the honors are released.
OZoner
My ballot looks like this right now: Bowdry Greene Silas Cooper Mulkey POY: Silas FOY: Javon McRea, Buffalo COY: Reggie
The Hip Zip
Would everybody agree that Nik has played his way right into the mix at the 4 spot ??
Dave in Green
The best player on a balanced team usually has less impressive stats than the best player on a team that relies heavily on that one player. If the All MAC team is based purely on gaudy stats, then the Serb might not make it. But if the voting is more thoughtful than just looking at stats, the Serb is 2nd team minimum and getting closer and closer to 1st team. Quickzips
There is so much parrity in the MAC (particularly in the East) it is just too hard to decide on these kinds of things right now. I will say this, I think Nikola deserves to be up there in the conversation for all-conference honors. I could see McClanahan MAYBE getting an honorable mention, Abreu getting a look on the all-freshman team and McKnight POSSIBLY getting some 6th man of the year consideration. I think the idea that Zeke has had a season worthy of all-MAC consideration is a little bit homerish. If we're being honest with ourselves, Zeke hasn't had a great year. There has been some improvement, and hopefully some glimpses of things to come, but outside of some good shot-blocking numbers, he isn't providing near what you would expect out of a 7 footer night in and night out. akronzips71
I think Nik will be first team. He has played amazing.
Hilltopper
None of our guys are flushy enough to merit a first team selection. KDs' system makes it tough to impress the voters because no one is going to score 35pts or get a high % of the shots taken by the team. The POTY is a beauty contest, we have a bunch of 7's and 8's, no 10's. I think Nik deserves to be 1st team All MAC because he has been so consistant all season. He has the total game, scoring, rebounding, assists, defense and the most important leadership. Will he get the nod, I don't think so. Blue & Gold
Interesting stat on Brett McKnight, per ABJ website. Games played: 117 Career starts: 19 I was surprised to see that Brett has only been in the starting five 19 times in his UA career.

I don't think he was all that consistent for the first 40% of the season. But he's the best post player in the conference for the past month, and that should garner him a 1st team nod. He just needs to finish these next 3 games strong. And I think he will.
