Captain Kangaroo Posted February 21, 2011 Report Posted February 21, 2011 Dambrot has turned a defenseless, offenseless, star-free team into a MAC championship contender. What took him so long to get this crew to play defense? Who cares...he kept preaching and preaching and finally converted the masses. The Zips are definitely a team where the whole has become greater than the sum of the parts. The Zips beat #2 COTY candidate Charlie Coles Wednesday night, and Coach Dambrot gets a well-deserved post-season accolade. Coles has done an amazing job despite some serious injuries. If he knocks off the Zips for the 2nd time, he'll be the 1st octogenarian to win the MAC COTY that I'm aware of? K.e.n.t's coach? No chance. OU's? No chance. Ball State's? No chance. Wednesday night @ the JAR decides it. Quote
RowdyZip Posted February 21, 2011 Report Posted February 21, 2011 Nah, Coach Dambrot's seat is getting warm. Quote
OZoner Posted February 21, 2011 Report Posted February 21, 2011 Disagree that Ford has no chance. In the running: Ford Dambrot Witherspoon Coles Hawkins Quote
Captain Kangaroo Posted February 21, 2011 Author Report Posted February 21, 2011 Disagree that Ford has no chance. In the running: Ford Dambrot Witherspoon Coles Hawkins Hawkins odds are as long a Charlie Coles-coached triple overtime game. Group all the MAC West coaches as Field Horses at 20-1. Witherspoon still has a legit chance. Quote
Valpo Zip Posted February 22, 2011 Report Posted February 22, 2011 OK, I took off my B & G glasses, so Geno Ford is IMHO the most deserving candidate. He has a young (rebuilding team) at the top of the conference. KD on the other side has a veteran, experienced team that is 2 games behind Ford's team. Just because KD's team underachieved early in the conference play and then went back to be the team they should be, doesn't make him COTY. Quote

Valpo Zip Posted February 22, 2011 Report Posted February 22, 2011 Are you aware that this veteran team of 4 seniors, 2 juniors, and arguably the best big guy talent in the conference, lost games to 6-18 NIU (RPI 308) and 5-18 EMU (RPI 321)?... and that's not under achieving to you? Look, I am not going to argue this any further because I want to enjoy the current status of the team and hopefully see them succeed and achieve the best they can do (which they can win it all). All what I'm saying is that Geno Ford achieved more than KD with less talent and experienceon his team. Quote
zippy5 Posted February 22, 2011 Report Posted February 22, 2011 Are you aware of the turnover this year's team had? Quote

Dave in Green Posted February 22, 2011 Report Posted February 22, 2011 Preseason MAC poll picked the Zips to be 3rd in the East. They're currently tied for 3rd in the East. So far they've neither overachieved nor underachieved. The preseason poll also picked B. McKnight to be on the East All-MAC first team. Maybe if McKnight had been playing with the team all season they would have picked up another 2 or 3 wins, be leading the MAC East and be overachieving. Who knows? Quote

zipboy Posted February 25, 2011 Report Posted February 25, 2011 I am pulling for KD, he should have gotten it at least once in the past. I still think whoever wins the MAC East gets it with Witherspoon a long shot if he can rally to 10-6. Preseason picks are meaningless but the same guys who vote on that pick the COTY. Buffalo was picked for 6th. Can't, Akron, and Miami were all close to interchangeable at 2,3 ,and 4. All 4 of these guys would have good cases if they finish strong. Quote
