zen
Yep, everything about Pryor's current situation reeks of the sense of entitlement that win-at-any-cost football factory schools with huge, fanatical fan bases encourage in their star players. The second part of the following SI column deals with student reaction, and some describe Pryor as a cocky, arrogant dude who appears to love to flaunt his special status. Some students would be happy to see Pryor hit the road along with Tressel. But it's not all on Pryor. Whatever character he may have had before he arrived at tOSU, he's also the product of the tOSU football system in particular and college football in general that encourages such behavior. In Columbus, a mournful mood Anyone who would still drive after their license is suspended obviously has contempt for the law and does not fear (or does not believe that there will be) the consequences of his actions. All of these signs are indicative that the unofficial message that OSU gives to it's recruits and players is "we obviously can't give you money and there are a lot of bullshit rules that we need to look like we are following, but if you come here, you will be like kings in Columbus and everyone will treat you that way." ...and because of this, these players feel that they are untouchable and entitled, and they hold NCAA rules with great disdain. They even hold the law in disdain. If it was one player and not a patter, then you could conclude that it is a personality flaw of that player. If it becomes a pattern with frequency and pervasiveness, then it is obviously the result of the culture and the fault of the institution. Dave in Green
Here's a followup on why Pryor's driver's license was suspended that offers further insight into his attitude toward higher authorities. It wasn't suspended because of the three traffic citations. It was because the last time he appeared in court for a citation, he failed to produce proof of driver's insurance. Since then, he has failed to respond to several requests from the court to provide proof of insurance in order to have his driver's license reinstated. Spin
I'm sure NFL teams will be falling all over each other to turn their teams over to a quarterback of such character and respectfulness. One more superstar-wannabe to self destruct before getting the big NFL payday. What's Maurice been up to, BTW?
Dave in Green
Former tOSU QB Craig Krenzel weighs in on the growing problem of the sense of entitlement and screwed up set of priorities in the current generation of college football players. The unanswered question is exactly where is this sense of entitlement and screwed up set of priorities coming from? Exactly what has happened to these young players to make them that way? How much are the young players screwing up the current college football system, and how much is the current college football system screwing up the young players? Dave in Green
Pryor's attorney (surely a busy man these days) reveals that his client's driver's license has been reinstated after showing proof of insurance (love the ESPN headline): Terrelle Pryor gets back privileges Pryor's attorney explains why his client is absolutely innocent of violating any rules in relation to borrowing cars: Attorney explains Terrelle Pryor loaners Speculation that tOSU threw Pryor under the bus to take the focus of media attention off the tOSU athletic department: Ohio State selling out Pryor? Dave in Green
Nothing at all wrong with bringing up an old article on Clarett when it contains a pertinent gem in it like the following: He left behind the car dealerships, where he says the head coach got him SUVs. The detailed description toward the end of that story about how he got loaners sounds remarkably similar to what we're hearing today. skip-zip
This just gets better, and creates more laughter as the days go on As Zips fans, what more can we ask for? The biggest program in our state, that gets the best players, attracts the most fans, and spends the most money to try to "buy" championships (unsuccessfully, by the way) is going down faster than a balloon that just popped. And just think....this is only the beginning of a long, sad story Enjoy the rest of the chapters everyone

ZippyforPresident
For some reason this all makes me think back to JD kicking Jacquemain off the team in '09, even if it cost us merely a few games and not some rigged profit bowl. On one hand we have JD kicking his senior quarterback off the team for less than getting in trouble with the law, merely a violation of team rules, even if that specific act handicapped the team and probably cost JD his job. On the other hand we have Jimmy Trestle fostering an environment for his senior quarterback to violate NCAA rules and sweeping the rest of his unlawful acts under the rug, not to mention the violations of so many others on his team to save his job and his image. A bastard is bad enough, but jimmy trestle is a self righteous bastard, and there's nothing worse than that. The "Senator?" Are you kidding me? Your corruption would make former cuyahoga county auditor Frank Russo blush... At least JD had the testicular fortitude to actually enforce the rules... UA > osu and JD > Jimmy P.S. Last team from an Ohio school to win a national championship trophy? If you're not too scared maybe you can come up and kiss it some time osu. Akron actually won honestly and through hard work. Something columbus knows nothing about. But we wouldn't expect you to anyway.

GP1
Why do you say that? I think that a lot of people look at tOSU fans in almost a sympathetic way...I don't, but some may. For ten years tOSU fans, when they weren't packing on a pound of fat a day, made fools of themselves telling everyone how great the program was because of the Big Ten Championships, beating Michigan and BCS appearances. As it turns out, all of those "accomplishments" are hollow. Accomplishments made meaningless because of a lying, cheating scumbag of a coach heading up a dirty football program in a dirty Athletic Department. Having been made a fool of can't sit well with tOSU fans. Having been made a fool of by a THUG con artist of a coach must be upsetting for the fans. Fans knowing that the tainted and hollow accomplishments of the past decade must be upsetting. Everything tOSU did over the past ten years should have the following symbol next to it..... *. Instead of a mascot wearing a nut on his head, he should have to wear a * on his head. It would be the most fitting symbol of the past ten years. How does it feel to be duped? ZachTheZip
I'm sitting here at work in Cleveland, listening to these two OSU fans rationalize everything to each otehr. It's taking everything I have to not correct their assumptions. They "know" that every school in the NCAA makes millions of dollars in profit on athletics. They "know" that every athlete at every school get offered free cars and such, right down to the women's rowing teams and volleyball teams. We have to win our game against them. Instead of a mascot wearing a nut on his head, he should have to wear a * on his head. It would be the most fitting symbol of the past ten years. How does it feel to be duped? I brought this up earlier. OSWho fans boast about wins against lowly Michigan, being good in the mediocre Big 10, and winning 11 games with a 60th-something ranked schedule because they can't talk about the big prize......NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS. They have 1 title in their last 43 attempts, thanks only to a yellow flag that fortunately fell for them after the final whistle. And two attempts ended in lopsided blowouts. What else are they going to brag about? This is why I am enjoying this so much. I know OSWho fans who are throughly convinced that they're better than the SEC, despite their 1-9 record against them, and the SECs 5 straight national titles. I've had to listen to this pompous crap for way too much of my life. This is s achool that is spending more money than anyone else, cheating more than anyone else, and running a sham of an operation to try to achieve greatness. And they've finally been exposed. And what makes this all so hilarious to me is that they are doing all of these things and STILL are not winning the big prize.

I have friends who are OSU fans that are so upset by this situation that I can't even bring the subject up with them. Why do you say that? I am upset. But I am also waiting for all the facts to be laid out. Maybe they are tired of taking about it. I know I am. I don't take SI or ESPiN word on anything. Much of what they have already said is being debunked. I don't believe everything I read. I guess when you want to believe you will. I am really looking forward to the epic meltdown that will occur here when things are found not to be nearly as bad as what some here think and hope they are. Yes, they are bad, but there is so much mis-information out there that it is ridiculous. Also, I have been a Cleveland sports fan my entire life. I am used to dissapointment. I just enjoy coming here every few days and reading this board. It makes me know that everything I've been saying is true. A certain couple of posters here have stated the same things multiple times and I LOL each time I read it. It's obvious they are trying to convince themselves. To prove my point, the thread about OSU is longer than the threads about UA winning a National Championship in Soccer and the Basketball team being in the NCAA tourney. .....That is pretty telling right there. I know most will deny it though. LOL It was a nice coverup at first refering to them as the September opponent, but we all know that was a bunch of BS, now don't we. The obsession is very evident. It is actually pretty funny and sad at the same time. I honestly don't understand how anyone can go through life with so much hatred. That's a pretty sad way to live IMHO. I'm not saying all here are like that. Some are just discussing and having conversations about the situation. Then there are the typical 2-3 that are obsessed. These 2-3 are very small, shallow, bitter people. Nothing I can say can change that. They are the ones that have to live with themselves. I won't be responding to the immenent attacks that will now come because I personally don't care what the few obsessed posters here think. You asked and I answered. Now, I have thrown the worm in the water, let the guppies come to the bait.
