Next year we have Zeke back, along with Rico, Nitro, Q and a bench full of excellent prospects.

We will probably start the season favored in the Mac and with a mid-major ranking.

It will be interesting to see what we can do with a mature Zeke and supporting cast.

This win was BIG for our program. For one thing, it probably puts Zeke on the national map. NINE BLOCKS in a championship game. Along with 13 rebounds.

And that last block should be the ESPN play of the week. It was dominant.

It will be in the top 10. I've got on ESPN and it is in the running for top play. Tune in.

Also, I like that those 4 are returning. But to say the 5 we are losing is not going to hurt would be an incorrect statement.

That is the nature of college ball. You can only get 4 years out of someone, then you need a new someone. We have some interesting new someones on the bench.

Nik is not coming back. Enjoy the present there is plenty of time for these threads after we go dancing.

He was not mentioned as a returnee in my post.

Someone else will need to develop to take his place.

The BIG need for the immediate future is another BIG because we are losing Nik and Bardo.

This success will help us find one.

I know. I don't want to start this discussion until after I've enjoyed this week. But, I think anyone is fooling themselves if they don't see that there's some major work ahead for us to quickly become a competitive team again if we are indeed losing 5 guys at once who have that level of experience. Surviving the loss of Chris McK and Jimmy C. was pretty simple compared to that.

Nik is not coming back.
Nice player, but easily replaceable.

Who is going to do this next year? :D

If the Zips play up to their potential again next season, there can be another group of 15 guys doing the very same thing.

It's not fair that the kid now gets to post as both Zach and akronzips71. ;)

If we can get that kind of contribution from Zeke next year night in and night out all season long I think we are going to be in pretty good shape. You can't under-state the impact that losing five guys from your rotation will have, but you also can't put a price tag on the value of having a legitimate, game changing big guy. I hope to god that this doesn't end up like all the other times we've felt Zeke had his breakout game only to watch him struggle for the next three weeks. I hope this was really a corner-turning performance for the big fella.

It constantly amazes me how negative some of you can be in spite of these players winning one of the most exciting games against our arch rival on national TV and giving us one of the best seasons in program history. One more win and we have THE best season in program history.

Why treat some of them like disposable commodities? They are young men who have worked hard to entertain us and do our alma mater proud. Why not celebrate that with them and thanks them for their hard work and success? If they choose to leave early because better opportunity exists elsewhere, wish them well! They have earned it. Put the bitterness and negativity away for at least a few weeks...there will be plenty of opportunity for that during football season.

Yes, I too hope the growth of our program results in continually better players being brought in, but that doesn't have to be at the expense of taking away from the accomplishments of current and past players. We have them to thank for the growth of the program.

Shame on you, GP1!

Please reread my post. I said he was a nice player before saying he was replaceable. Everyone is replaceable...some more easily than others.

Are they disposable commodities? Maybe. Some for sure. Didn't we give the boot to some of our commodities after last season? Aren't we better because of it? It's Division I college basketball, not D-III or high school. In a big boys world and inside of coaches rooms, players are talked about in this manner. Sorry if some aren't mature enough to talk about it.

It's not a maturity issue at all. My main point is that this is a great day for the Zips and UA. We should be all positive in celebration. I won't debate this anymore though because I know it could go on ad nauseum. :horse:

I can think of some great captions for that pic. Unfortunately, the monitors would not care for most of them. Several of them involve thoughts of women from his hometown.

In addition, think of the bacteria on that net; might as well lick the floor. :puke:

Why is Nik not coming back?

He's already decided to go back to Serbia and play professionally. He's got a girlfriend back home & is ready to move on, get married & start a family. (I believe he's finishing up his degree this spring, so he'll leave UA w/ a diploma, even though he has one year of athletic eligibility left.)
