15th seed it is

Zips get the 15th seed and play Notre Dame in Chicago. It will be a tough game for us but I think Chicago is a great draw for us, being only 6 hours away.

Wouldn't be too bad until you consider exactly how close Notre Dame is. As close to a home game for them as they can get. It would certainly be a HUGE upset if we could get it done.

no doubt, I'm just saying, 6 hours is an easy drive and a lot cheaper than a cross-continental flight.

They may be a 2 seed, but it can be done :NCAAC:

I find it funny that Fox Sports radio is already writing off the Zips, but tiring to justify ND being a 2 seed.

That's what I was thinking. We might as well play them on their home floor in South Bend.

I also was still hoping that we'd equal our 14th seed from 2 years ago.

So stoked it is in Chicago on FRIDAY! Couldn't have been more perfect.
I think this is the best part, it gives more Zips fans a chance to get to see their team play live in the big dance. I know how fun it was at the Q on Saturday night, imagine if we win Friday and I'm not there when given a chance. Forecast is calling for 50 degrees for the drive up and back.

Look into Southwest non stop from Cleveland. A cheap ticket may cost you more than the price of gas going up and back. Probably cost around $120 for gas up and back at the current prices, plus wear and tear on the car.

There was an excellent program on HBO yesterday about the Wooden years at UCLA. He never once talked about winning games. It was always about doing your best.

The last time the Zips were in the tournament they did well, but I don't think they did their best for 40 minutes. This week is a chance to correct that. Win or lose, I just want to see 100% effort from every guy for 40 minutes and let the chips fall where they may.

Still not sure why we are a 15 seed when you think about it. How many times has the MAC Champ ever been seeded that lowly? I know even though only managing a 9 seed in the MAC tourney last year OU was a 14 seed. In 2009, we were the MAC #5 and got a 13 seed, this year we're a MAC #6 but a 15 in the Dance despite playing a tougher non-conference slate than in 2008-09. It defies logic.

Amen.

I am also happy with the match-up and the location. Combined with being in Chicago and the Friday game, there should be lots of UA support. Go Zips!

With loses to NIU and EMU, I am not about to complain about the 15 seed either. It was relatively fair IMO. I guess you could say, it is UA fair. Not a Northwestern level screw job that is for sure.

Well, I'm not devastated by the matchup but I am just looking at the seeding compared to how we and similar teams was done in the past. Are we really that much worse than we were two years ago? or Ohio was last year? Should we really be a worse seed than Long Island U?

What time slot does everyone want? Will the fact that its ND make it more likely to be in prime time?

This is really like a 3 V 14 matchup. ND is the lowest 2 seed and we are the highest 15 seed. I like our chances for 3 reasons:

1. Being much closer to home than 2009.

2. Better matchup in style of play.

3. Much better fan support from the indifferent fan(Because soooooooooo many people HATE ND).

We have a chance to be a "Cinderella" this year, despite the incoherent ramblings of that f@!#king @ss from MSNBC, who probably only knows what a jock-strap is from his latest google search.

GO ZIPS!!!

How the hell is USC even in the Tourney, let alone an 11 seed?!

How the hell did VCU even make it in?!

How the hell did UAB make it in?!

You could go on and on. The 15 seed doesn't seem unfair...it just seems a little odd considering some of the higher seeded and weak teams. Yes, teams that may be better than us on paper but shouldn't even be in the Tournament...unlike us who actually earned an automatic bid.

From CBS Sportsline:

Why they'll win it: Experience, of course. The common theme with this team is to joke about the median age hovering around 26. But with five seniors in the starting lineup, Notre Dame's been playing like a team out of the 1970s or '80s, the way it has beaten teams so well. The group has so much confidence because it's so comfortable in its skin. Ben Hansbrough and Tim Abromaitis are dangerous from deep, but Carleton Scott is the player Hansbrough has said is most vital to keeping the unit strong at its core.

Why they won’t: Too many lopsided losses. The Irish dropped six games this year, five by 12 points or more.

Players to watch: It's hard to not watch Hansbrough compose himself on the court. He could have a Jimmer-like moment on the big stage, certainly. And as noted above, Abromaitis is just as lethal from long range. Shutting them down involves both having an off night as much as any successful coaching strategy.

Best off the bench: Notre Dame doesn't go deep, but Eric Atkins is an efficient scorer, competent distributor and no stranger to the foul line. Great plug-him-in guy.

Soaring/slumping: Up: Hansbrough's been ascending ever since January, to be honest. Abromaitis is in the territory as well. There have been a few games when both have gone off. Down: It's a compliment to say Tyrone Nash falls into this category because, really, the Irish haven't seen disappointing play out of anyone lately. Nash is a victim of raised expectations.

Notable stat: 15.9 percent. That's how often Notre Dame turns teams over. Only eight teams force their opponents into fewer mistakes. None of those teams will be in the tournament.

Last time won a national championship: 1936 (pre-NCAA tournament).

All-time starting five: G: Austin Carr; F: Troy Murphy; F: Kelly Tripucka; F: Adrian Dantley; C: Paul Nowak.

Final thought: Burn, baby, burn? The burn offense is the ace up Notre Dame’s sleeve. The Irish can score with the best of them -- and run, too -- but no team has such a counter like Brey's. The burn offense is defined as this: burning out the shot clock until the final few seconds before taking a shot. It's used to take other teams, perhaps those who thrive off running and chaos, completely out of their element. It's a wonderful weapon to have, and Notre Dame has mastered it, even if they utilize it infrequently.

Nothing...and he didn't know anything about baseball either. He was a big time "state the obvious" beat writer for the Tribe.

Two years ago the Zips were a 13 seed, but I think the primary reason for the 15 drop is the extra 16 seed. Without that it probably bumps the Zips to a 14 which they probably deserve. As far as conferences, it is pretty irrelavent how they are ranked. What matters is what team they sent. Not happy about a 15 but I understand how it happened.
