Cant vs St. Marys

Both of our fan-bases may grind our teeth and put on a sh*t eating grin as we painfully wish each other well...we both know that is a lie. Secretly we're both hoping the other trips up.

BUT...

The fact remains that whether we like it or not, the M.A.C. needs to stick together and hope for a good conference showing. (Yes, that goes for both Portage and Summit county)

Here's to making waves in tourney season.

actually, you guys having success in the post season has no negative bearing on the Zips so I do wish you well. Now during the regular season where it means something, I hope you guys lose by 50 every game =P

Seriously though, nice win for the Flushes tonight. Best of luck against Fairfield.

If you take away the games against the MAC West which dragged the East down, Can't would be a top 50 RPI team and on the bubble, while Akron, Miami, Buffalo, and Ohio would all be above or right around 100. The MAC East is on par with the A-10, Horizon, and CAA but the teams at the bottom of the West are so awful that they drag the entire conference ratings down into the depths.

This post season the East is proving that the MAC isn't defined by our worst teams.

I understand what you guys are saying, but quite frankly, we don't need anyone else to win. Just take care of our own business. Gonzaga didn't need anyone, and has kinda slipped the past couple years with saint mary's emergence as a WCC power. we want to be the gonzaga of the east...well the gonzaga of the west did it by themselves. Count me in the rooting against Can't in the NIT camp.

It's always in your team's best interest to have every other team on the schedule do well in every game they play except when they're playing your team. High RPI is earned by playing and beating winning teams. When you wish for your opponents to lose to other teams, you are wishing for their RPI to be lowered, which in turn lowers your team's RPI.

So it's in the best interest of the Zips team and fans, the Flushes teams and fans, and every other MAC team and their fans to wish each other to do well except when they play against your team.

I'd love to be able to say that the Zips beat the team that won the NIT, and I'm sure that many Can't fans would love to be able to say that they came within one shot of beating a team that made a deep run in the NCAA tournament.

The thing that's really shocking to me about some of these posts is the impact that some of you think these wins will produce for the respect of our conference. A first round CBI/CIT victory's impact means almost nothing, and a first round NIT win isn't all that much better. We've won opening round NIT games too. How many people do you really think remember these things a couple of years later besides the die hard fans of the teams who won, and the die hard fans of the teams who got beat? I'd really like to see one publication of national significance that will post information that has any resemblance to "Hey...we really need to show the MAC more respect since they had several teams win first round CIT/CBI games".

And again, for the record, I can never root for Ken+

Ken+ can't be the NIT champion without winning the first round.

The above just about sums it all up, nicely.

I watched the Cant vs. St. Mary's game last night from beginning to delightful end.

Some observations: The announcers sucked at giving kudos to the MAC. They made Cant

out to be the only worthy team in the MAC. No mention of Akron beating Cant until about

ten minutes into the game when they ran a short high light clip. A six seed had no business

upsetting the mighty Flushes according to them. No mention that the two teams split during

the regular season. Akron just got lucky the way they put it.

St. Mary's knew how to stop Cant by doubling Greene and staying on the perimeter shooters.

When they followed the script Cant was mighty frustrated and probably having flashbacks

to Saturday night. St. Mary's discovered that MAC opponents are as tough as an old, oily rag

to chew on. Nice win for the Portage County team.

Did any one notice the co-incidence between Cant's opponent and the Zips opponent?

Both schools are named after the Blessed Virgin Mary. Notre Dame literally means. "Our

Lady". Both schools are Irish oriented. Both schools are Catholic institutions. And, you

can bet that the Blessed Mother is none to pleased to with ND for sucking up to obama

the most anti-life man to ever hold the Presidential office. I believe she is rooting for the Zips.

If you glance quickly at a snail, you might not think it's moving. But come back a few hours later and you'll find it's slowly crawled right out of sight.

The national sports media's opinion of teams and conferences moves at a snail's pace. An opening round CBI/CIT victory produces about the same effect as quickly glancing at a snail. It will take many victories by many MAC teams over time to slowly change the national sports media's opinion on the MAC. But if the day ever comes that they do start talking about how the MAC has improved, they will mention many of the big regular season OOC and tournament victories as proof to back up their claim that the MAC has improved.

It's a 3-phase process:

1. Start winning.

2. Continue winning.

3. Become recognized as a consistent winner.

Phase 2 can't happen without phase 1, and phase 3 can't happen without phases 1 and 2.

Good point. Most Columbus State fans I know (and I know far too many of them) deep down desire to see Michigan get their football program right again. The OSU-Michigan rivalry is really dying & Big 10 football has basically turned into a 1-team conference. The Columbus State fans, though they "hate" Michigan (for, you know, whatever reason. Because they're supposed to, I guess.) wish Michigan would get their act together for the sake of the entire conference - which pretty much anymore just gets chuckles & rolled eyes by the national media.
