Dr Z Posted March 23, 2011 Report Posted March 23, 2011 • Who will emerge as the Zips' first-unit tailback? • Will quarterback Patrick Nicely finish spring practice at No. 1 on the depth chart?Nicely, the incumbent, had trouble adjusting to the new pro-style offense in 2010 and completed just 49.4 percent of his passes. Junior college transfer Clayton Moore, a former University of Mississippi recruit, is a player to watch the next three weeks. • How easily will the Zips put the disastrous 2010 season behind them? • What will new defensive coordinator Kevin Cosgrove do to improve that unit? • Will the Zips be able to field a full, capable offensive line for scrimmages and the spring game? Zipmeister Posted March 23, 2011 Report Posted March 23, 2011 I'll start. 6. Who is going to emerge as the back-up tailback? 7. If the Zips ever get good enough to win some football memorabilia, how big a tattoo will local artist provide for each item? 8. Why can't the the Zips cheerleaders seem to slap on as much make-up as any of the cheer-leading squads in the SEC? 8a. Should the University start an "applying clown make-up" program? 9. If we are not going to pass to the tight end, shouldn't we save money and not let them use any of the sticky-finger stuff? 10. In order to get bigger defensive backs, has any consideration been given to sewing some of them together (ala The Human Centipede)? Your turn. Quote
MaxZIP Posted March 23, 2011 Report Posted March 23, 2011 The Zips have a serious problem at receiver. There were many dropped balls today and only two appear to be over six feet. Seriously, most of the corps looks like the defensive backfield did last year. Quote

skip-zip Posted March 24, 2011 Report Posted March 24, 2011 In a case like this, I'm always a bit bothered when I hear coaches in their 2nd season talking a lot about everyone feeling more comfortable because they're going through this for the 2nd time. I don't know. As a fan, when you know your team is horrible, and coming off of a 1-11 season, I guess you don't like hearing that ANYTHING is going to be the same as what we did last year. Quote

My guess is, pretty close to ZERO. Quote

My guess is, pretty close to ZERO. Nicely and Moore both looked good. Botha have a good arm but Moore is noticeably shorter than nicely (I know there are Pro Bowl quarterbacks that are undersized). He also did not look as agile in drills. I think we will need both to get through this year because our o-line is going to get one or both killed. At least both can hit a receiver on the far side of the field unlike previous ZIP QBs. This is a nice "problem" to have. GO ZIPS Quote

What are the chances that we got him to come here with only the "possiblity" that he would be the starter? My guess is, pretty close to ZERO. The Lone Ranger does not strike me as a player who is lacking in self-confidence. All he needed to do was look at PN7's stats from last season, and he likely would have felt confident that he could win the starting position away from the incumbent. Hopefully a healthy, open competition between the two will make them both better QBs. Quote

Todays story, which I can't like from the phone I'm using to type this, is all about the RBs. Looks like Alexander will be the guy once he's fully recovered. Aside from him, we're looking at the youngest stable of RBs in the country. Quote
