Kangaroo Craig
Here is a distinction you do not want to have. 1. Akron, 2. BSU, 4. Buffalo, 5 WMU, 7. EMU, 12. BG, 21. MU, 22. Can't, 28. CMU. 36. Toledo, 38. NIU. Congrats to OU and Temple for not making this list. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/663298-...n-bases#page/51 Winning changes everything. So does playing in a conference that the average person actually cares about. I-Coach needs to get this thing turned around.
ZachTheZip
Worst college team = worst college fan base Pretty simple. As for this "Yes, the Zips only managed one win in 2010, but what would have happened if more fans would have showed up?", the answer is that we would have lost in front of more fans. Zipmeister
One of the disadvantages of claiming we have 5,000 more seats than we actually do is that percentage of capacity attendance figures get understated.
MontrealExposloveZippy
The author of this article, Amy Daughters, referred to Zippy as "He." NOOB!!
GP1
Worst fans or the smartest fans? Why would anyone go watch a team that bad?
cornbread
The journalistic credibility of Amy Daughters and the Bleacher Report ensures that this distinction will forever shame the Akron Zips. Might as well close up shop now... its over.
a-zip
With a brand new state of the art stadium, this is what we get. This is beyond embarrassing.
Dave in Green
Let's be honest here. It's easy to be a fan of winning. When teams win, everyone's onboard. No one is a fan of losing. When teams lose, only the most loyal fans are onboard. The fewer fans who are onboard when a team is losing, the weaker the fan base. Plain and simple, UA has a weak fan base. Too many are only there for the winning and not for their team, for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health for as long as we both shall live. Lee Adams
I hope that it is not news to anyone that Akron has a 'weak' fan base. That information is like ancient history. That was why it was so curious when the powers that be decided to spring for such an elaborate facility and apparently assume just because it was new it would draw big crowds. Ryno aka Menace
Wow I really wasn't expecting that ranking....I mean I expect us to be on the list but....damn.
Spin
In an area where boys are raised to love the Browns and the Buckeyes (or the Steelers), what has this program done to reach out to the football fan? There is no marketing. None. Yeah they get flashed up on a billboard for a few seconds, but so does mens and womens basketball, soccer. So does Can't State. The merchandising still sucks. I don't remember if it was TJ Maxx or JP Penny last week, but I was in one, IN AKRON, and they sold Can't State crap but not Akron. I swear we're not only under the shadow of tOSU, we're also under the shadow of Can't State. I wanted to buy a winter coat, they don't make them. Guess I'll have to buy another Akron Aeros coat this fall. It's pretty sad when a liberal arts college has more stuff then your own "Division I" school does. New stadium. Woo hoo. They can't be bothered to fix the wind damaged scoreboard. I'm waiting for a gust of wind to get up inside there and blow all the front panels out. They'll show up on game day, and wonder why it doesn't work. I don't even want to go into the gong show on the field. Not having the talent in your first year is one thing. But the same linemen making the same mistakes and drawing the same penalties in the spring game, the scrimmage, and in late November to kill possibly winning drives, is UNACCEPTABLE. Down years, I understand. Overmatched against bigger schools, not a problem. But a complete lack of coaching, I'm not coming down here to watch it and I get in free. I see better football on friday nights. The whole thing just gives me the impression that nobody in the program gives a shit. So why should I? Congrats football on your accomplishment. Quickzips
I've said it before and I will say it again. I can handle losing teams. I'll go and watch a few games when the program is losing. What I absolutely can not handle are teams that aren't even competitive. I'm not going to spend my money to watch a team that is overmatched, un-inspired and un-competitive. Unfortunatly that is what we have regressed to ever since that one semi-respectable season in '05. There is no point in going to watch a team that doesn't have much of a shot to put points on the scoreboard, let alone win a game or two. Those of you who are still on the bandwagon for this team, enjoy it. I've been off it for a while. If that makes me a bad fan, so be it.
