zippyfan34
Akron is currently first at the Illini Spring Classic featuring 10 Big 10 teams. The first day was supposed to be 36 holes but got shortened to 18 due to the weather. The final 18 is today and they are currently hanging onto a 1 shot lead over the host Illini. Wow, talk about impressive. Nice job, Zips!! Here are the final team scores. Quite impressive scores considering the weather. I went out today and played Chippewa and stopped keeping score but probably would have been around 120. I'm usually a bogey golfer and around 90. The wind was just nasty. 72 Roo
Well done Zip golfers! More evidence that good things are happening here at Akron. Keep it up guys and kick ass in the MAC tourney!
UAZipster0305
Very exciting to hear about. Could this be our third ranked athletic program of the 2010-2011 year? Does the men's golf program have what it takes to win the MACC and be our third men's NCAA qualifying team of the year? Where could that put us in the overall NCAA Championship standings for the men? Where do we stand currently? Anyone have a link?

Dave in Green
I admit that I don't follow other Zips sports the way I do basketball. But that kind of golf performance against the Big Ten is starting to get into the realm of the Zips soccer team. I'm really impressed. Blue & Gold
This is a great victory. You'd like to think we'd have one of the top golf programs in the midwest, having Firestone C.C. as our home course. Pretty amazing recruiting advantage there. It makes me wonder how long Coach Goetz will last at Akron. If the team could surpass the guys in Portage, that would be groundbreaking. I was really amazed that they were able to sign a head coach with previous HC experience at schools like Florida State. He's done a good job -- hopefully on the verge (haven't seen any recruiting news yet this year) of doing what has already happened with the tennis team. Let's hope either he's a golf version of Caleb Porter (not likely), or that we can provide enough reward to keep him in town.

ZachTheZip
They're currently in 3rd place in the MAC championship. I have no idea how the format of this thing works. I hope they pull it off though. Go Zips!

I hope they pull it off though. Go Zips! For each 18 holes your top 4 out of the 5 scores count. They played 2 rounds today and will play 1 saturday and 1 sunday. It is going to take a nearly impossible finish to overtake Can't unfortunately. Can't shot lights out their second round and we trail by 28 shots. So our guys need to outscore their guys by 3-4 shots for the next 2 18 hole rounds. If 2 of the Can't guys get DQ'd they couldn't win. I guess we hope for that. http://www.golfstatresults.com//public/lea...ayers_2255.html
