Captain Kangaroo Posted April 18, 2011 Report Posted April 18, 2011 The Hoops Board is D-E-A-D?! Quote
Zip Watcher Posted April 18, 2011 Report Posted April 18, 2011 In Zips basketball related news, I continue to raise a glass containing my favorite Irish spirits several times a week to celebrate the Zips supremacy of MAC hoops. I am well into my off-season conditioning program in celebration of yet another conference championship! B) B) Quote
ZachTheZip Posted April 18, 2011 Report Posted April 18, 2011 So I heard Dakotah Euton is transferring. Quote
zipboy Posted April 19, 2011 Report Posted April 19, 2011 Charles Ramsey was let go at EMU, 1 yr left on 175K contract. Todd Lichliter is rumored to be a top candidate per the Detroit Free Press. Quote
johnnyzip84 Posted April 19, 2011 Report Posted April 19, 2011 KD speaks at HOF luncheon. Dambrot’s success with the Zips would make him a strong candidate to move on to a bigger program such as Can't State’s Geno Ford did when he took the Bradley job. Dambrot has no interest in leaving. He is an Akron graduate and has ties to the university that date to when his late mother, Faye, taught in the psychology department there. “I’m 52 and have all my friends and family at the university,” Dambrot said. “I make a good enough amount of money. I just don’t see it.” Quote

dboze Posted April 19, 2011 Report Posted April 19, 2011 I've heard two things: 1) The team is planning a trip to Canada in August to play a few games exhibition games. I believe Harney, Treswell, Walsh, and Gilliam are all eligible to play in these games. 2) The team is looking to play in a Major Pre-season Tournament. Quote

I'd love to save my nickles for a nice little vacation that time next year. I'm already giddy with excitement over next season. Though - if I had to bet - we have another somewhat rocky regular season as the newcomers get to know each other and KD works on settling rotations & PT. Quote
Captain Kangaroo Posted April 19, 2011 Author Report Posted April 19, 2011 I've heard two things: 1) The team is planning a trip to Canada in August to play a few games exhibition games. I believe Harney, Treadwell, Walsh, and Gilliam are all eligible to play in these games. 2) The team is looking to play in a Major Pre-season Tournament. Once the spring semester is done, assuming they have sufficient credits and a serviceable GPA, they'll all be eligible. Great news on the pre-season tourney. The iron is hot for the next 2 seasons...it's time to strike, and play some marquee opponents. Quote

Zipmeister Posted April 20, 2011 Report Posted April 20, 2011 Who and where will the Zips be playing in Canada? I don't know who we will be playing, but I hope we schedule Carleton, Saskatchewan, and Dalhousie or teams of their caliber. I fear we will instead schedule teams like Chabot, Ohlone, and Siskiyous. Regardless, the extra practice time should be beneficial. Quote
meatwad Posted April 20, 2011 Report Posted April 20, 2011 Not the news you were probably looking for, but apparently Nik is back in Serbia. Don't know if that means anything... just sharing some info on a "dead" board. Quote

With the announcement of UMass joing the MAC in football only beginning in 2012 they will be required to play 4 MAC basketball games, 2 home & 2 away. Hope we can jump in early and get them in the JAR this year and definitely in 2012. They aren't at the level they were in hoops but will help in "bettering" our schedule. Quote

The last game against Carleton could be interesting. The first 4 against Sheridan, Quebec, McGill and the Champlain hasbeens should be name the score outings for the Zips. Quote

Maybe we could get scouting report from Derrick Tarver. Quote
GoZips Posted July 22, 2011 Report Posted July 22, 2011 Why is it that fans only want to see the highest caliber of opponent talent as opposed to what the coaching staff is trying to do?The coaching staff has been blessed with the best talent ever to wear a Zips uniform, And, instantly the fanbase thinks it is time to seek out and kill Goliath. What the staff has to do in a short time frame is blend intothe mix four very talented and athletic players. This is best done against opponents that do not overwhelmour players. Its training time. It is learning time. The trip to Canada is not a tournament for the Canadian National Championship. It is a training exercise.Treat it as a scrimmage.Josh Egner suffered a mild concussion during open gym recently. Everyone else is healthy. The decommit of Akbar happened because he committed. Prior to his verbal to Akron he was getting no"love" from other schools. Committing to Akron woke up the sleeping potential schools. He still has the option to recommit. However, based on what I learned, it is not likely that he will findopen arms waiting for him at Akron.Moral is in the stratosphere. The players, the staff, the athletic department are fully aware that thiscoming season is going to be exciting.Three open dates to be filled. Sorry, no St. John's. One of two home dates is expected to be a Div-2. Quote

The Zips could have scheduled tougher competition lining up games with 5 of the better high school teams in the state, but they couldn't legally get the practice time an international trip allows by doing so. One of two home dates is expected to be a Div-2.I personally don't care one bit who we play in Canada. The big boost is the extra time together with the team. That alone is going to pay off for us as the season progresses. The fact that we are playing someone else and not just having to beat up on ourselves is just gravy. If that is the case about Akbar then good ridance. We don't need kids in this program who look at us like some JUCO stopover on their way to a big 6 powerhouse. Sorry to hear about Josh's concussion, hopefully it is nothing to serious and he can get some good work in in Canada with the guys. I think we are going to need some contributions from him this year. Hopefully it is nothing that lingers.Dying to see what the OOC schedule ends up looking like. Though I fully expect this team to bring another Conference Tournament trophy back down I-77 in March, I do hope that the OOC schedule is tough enough to give us a reasonable shot at an at-large, just in case.
