I applaud the effort for trying something new to get fans in the seats for all sporting events and how flexible this is.

AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron Department of Athletics and Rubber City McDonald's announced on Wednesday the launch of the "Zips All-Access 10-Pack" presented by McDonald's. This unique ticket package includes 10 vouchers, redeemable for general admission tickets to any 2011-12 regular-season home athletics contest for the Zips five ticketed sports as well as 10 buy-one, get-one-free breakfast or lunch extra value meal coupons at McDonald's – all for just $100.

"This package allows Zips fans to supplement their season tickets by inviting additional guests to games, and offers families, businesses and community groups the flexibility to create their own Zips schedule to support all of our teams," said UA Director of Athletics Tom Wistrcill. "Those who purchase the 'Zips All-Access 10-Pack' can determine exactly which games they want to attend and how many people they want to bring with them. We are very appreciative of McDonald's making this offering even more valuable to our fans."

The "Zips All-Access 10-Pack" presented by McDonald's is valued up to $200 for the tickets and the McDonald's offers. Vouchers must be exchanged at the Athletics Ticket Office for general admission tickets (based on availability). One voucher will be redeemed for one general admission ticket, except for the Can't State football and men's basketball games, which will require two vouchers to be exchanged for one general admission ticket. General admission tickets are available for football, men's basketball, women's basketball, men's soccer and women's soccer. All vouchers must be used for regular-season contests during the 2011-12 Zips athletics season.

Those who purchase the "Zips All-Access 10-Pack" by June 3 will be eligible to purchase a ticket as part of the UA allotment to the Zips away games at intra-state opponents Ohio State (Sept. 3) and Cincinnati (Sept. 17). Fans will be eligible to purchase one ticket for each "Zips All-Access 10-Pack" purchased (maximum of four).

The "Zips All-Access 10-Pack" presented by McDonald's, can be purchased online anytime at GoZips.com/tickets, or from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET on Mondays through Fridays by either calling 1-888-99-AKRON (25766) or visiting the Akron Athletics Ticket Office at InfoCision Stadium – Summa Field (located at 375 E. Exchange Street, near Gate 1 at the southwest corner of the venue, at the corner of E. Exchange and S. Union streets).

Rubber City McDonald's operates 20 locations in northeast Ohio, including one at 246 East Exchange Street in Akron within walking distance of the Zips athletics facilities and ticket office.

"As an alumnus and longtime supporter of the University, I have always loved the Zips," said John Blickle, president/owner Rubber City McDonald's. "We know this will be a great partnership to promote McDonald's and Zips Athletics and add value to our customers and fans."

Seems like a good idea. Go to the game and hop across the street from the parking deck for a burger before or after. For the people who don't like tailgating (what the heck is wrong with them?!).

Good start. Now do a dozen more things like this.

I can't remember the last time I was in a McDonald's. I was going to suggest combining with Chipotle since that would include a different demographic.

I've heard so many people say that Chipotle was owned by McDonald's that I believed it...until I just looked it up.

From 1998 to 2006, McDonald's Corporation owned a majority interest in Chipotle, which it fully divested in 2006.
Depends on what you mean by "own" I suppose. I've heard the same thing many times, so I'm glad you looked it up

VERY good idea. Customers love options and deciding which is the best value for them. This is a very inexpensive promotion for a fan, yet is doesn't involve giving away tickets. For some, the best value may be 2-3 football games and then basketball or whatever they decide is important to THEM. I guess one thing is unclear to me. Do you have to purchase season tickets before buying this or can it be purchased on its own?

IDEA.... Record all tickets used (assuming they use electronic scanners at the football games). If a person uses their allotment during football season, they automatically are allowed to buy a similar package for basketball, or just another package in general. The University has to have a mechanism for rewarding going to games, not just buying tickets. If I attend every Wake Forest football game, I get a discount on my donation for season tickets the following year. Every ticket is scanned as you walk in the gate. Know not only who is buying your product, but who is actually using it. Treat those using the product better than those just buying it, but treat both well.

The football team needs to be good. If it is good, then people feel good about going to other sports and the University in general. Reward fans going to games with a good team, and maybe they buy another pack for basketball and there are more than 2,000 per game for OOC basketball games.

The only thing I wonder is -- Would it have been better to break it down into "5 for $50" and something like "11 for $100?"

10 bucks a game is great, but some people just freak out at the $100 number.

Nice idea....I just wonder if the $100 number itself will be a deterrent. Even "$99" makes a difference (hence why everything in the world is priced @ some increment of "99" rather than rounding up to the "00" integer).
