Dr Z Posted June 28, 2011 Report Posted June 28, 2011 I got a "save the date" 5 x 7 laser print direct mailer yesterday. Here is the full list of events. Bigger and bolder than ever, Homecoming 2011 will include a Spirit Parade on Oct. 6; a “Blue, Gold and Soul” concert by legendary musician Herbie Hancock on Oct. 7; alumni-comedian George Wallace direct from Vegas, the Zips Fest and Akron Football vs. Florida International University on Oct. 8; and much more. For the younger viewers who don't know Herbie Hancock, he is 71 years of age. He had a hit in 1964 that Us3 redid when I was going to school. Wonder if he'll play it for us? Quote
K92 Posted June 28, 2011 Report Posted June 28, 2011 I don't know if he'll play that one, but he better play this one. Rockit Quote
Captain Kangaroo Posted June 28, 2011 Report Posted June 28, 2011 The Captain's 1981 Chevy Citation used to rock to Herbie back-in-the-day. Future Shock tests your woofer's limits. Quote
K92 Posted June 28, 2011 Report Posted June 28, 2011 This is a great trip down memory lane. I never had Future Shock, I had the Rockit 12" single, though. I remember the video with the manneqin legs steppin to the music. Billy Soule had that one in rotation on 23 Nite Videos quite often as I remember. Wonder if we will see Billy at the concert? Or would I even recognize him if I saw him, that was 25 years ago. CK, I bet you had some great times in that Citation. Timeless style on that model. Quote
2Ball Posted June 29, 2011 Report Posted June 29, 2011 Who ever is doing the marketing for the athletic department should do alittle more research in what they send out to fans. I don't think I should be receiving a post card trying to get me to buy a general admission season ticket when I have already bought a reserved season ticket. One would think you could have more than one post card to send to fans depending on if they already have purchased a ticket or not. Also, being June 28th wouldn't it better to Save the Date for the home opener on September 10th vs Temple? And to try to get me to buy season tickets vs FIU? Quote

And to try to get me to buy season tickets vs FIU?I have been plenty critical of the marketing department in the past. This is not the time to do it. They are trying to put together a big homecoming weekend. It seems like a lot of time and energy has gone into planning. Printing and mailing was minimal cost. Season ticket holders received them for informational purpose. If they didn't, how would they plan a weekend that they already have tickets for. Let's give them credit when they actually try to do something. I hope this is a start to something that gets rolling. Of course I have said this umpteen times before. Promoting the season opener is a separate issue. Quote
