Ticket Sales

We talk a lot on this board about how to get people to go to football games. Some of the misguided believe giving away tickets is worth it just to get people in the stadium. Others believe a price must be put on tickets in order to establish a value for the event. I actually think UofA is doing a good job trying to find methods of getting people to pay to go to games. They could do better though.

Really smart people believe it doesn't matter what they charge because when the team is doing poorly, there is no reason to go regardless of the ticket prices. When this happens, maintaining some ticket value is important because you hope when the team is good and you can actually have a customer base that understands it isn't always free to go see a college football game.

There is a good portion of the article that talks about the Baltimore Orioles selling tickets for $1.00 for a Major League Baseball (sort of). Basically, they were giving away tickets in an attempt to sell food and drinks. Their ticket sales didn't move. Why? Nobody wanted to go watch the crap Baltimore was putting on the field. Lesson...When demand is almost zero, make the number zero and maintain current prices for the day when the team is good again.

People will pay to go see a winner. Let's win some games. Wait, let's win a lot of games.

When struggling to put a watchable football team on the field, they could focus more on other aspects of the gameday experience so there is still some entertainment value. Beef up the marching band, bring in some live entertainment acts for tailgating or postgame, have fireworks, amusements for the kids, etc. I agree with keeping a 'respectable' face value on the tickets but they could put out discount coupons or sell discounted blocks to ticket dealers in order to get people to show up and have decent attendance numbers. If there is at least a crowd there will be corporate sponsorship opportunities to help offset costs.

They are selling season GA tickets for $60, and including a $30 food/concession voucher.
Zips Ultimate Season Ticket $60

Family Plan (2 Adult and 2 Youth) for $200

Pretty good deals if they can start to win some of these home games.

And suckers like me pay reserved seat prices. I'm not so smart.
I like what the Indians are doing for (some) season ticket holders, they put a $3 concession voucher on the ticket, so you take the ticket to the beer stand and pay $3 less. There should be some benefit to being a multi-year season ticket holder.

$5 per game.

I would be in the not so smart group if I still lived there.

I think they should have some games where they partner with a community. Play the Massillon-Firestone game at the Info after the Zips-Ohio game. One ticket gets you both games. Maybe an hour between games....where the Zips and the 2 HS bands could entertain. Attendance would increase, and more people would get to see the Zips, the university and the Info.

I think we have to keep maintain the prices but there are ways to discount. Family, groups multiple games etc...

My experience with the ticket department has been great. They are friendly and seem to be genuinely interested in me and their product. We really need for the football team to start winning. I think the marketing department is overly focused on football because of the attendance requirement. The basketball team may suffer a little because they are burned out or still working on football issues that they may miss (or are late) for opportunities.

Anyone who is a season ticket holder at a MAC school is spending that money to help keep the program alive, not to get the best deal. From that perspective, then, you're not making a bad decision.

That's an excellent idea. Or the Hoban-St. V. game. Or Walsh-St. V. Don't charge the schools rental and they'll be all over it.

The more the better. An Akron area vs a non-Akron are or 2 Akron area schools. They could get free advertising in the local teams stadiums leading up to the game.

I'm not interested in the Zips being an opening act for a high school football game. Not many fans would be interested in sitting in The Big Dialer for six hours watching football.

I will count as one who will not be there. :thumb:
