Former Zip HC at D2 Schools

Pluto writes this article about Owens and Dennison (with a mention of Paul Winters, as well).

If anything, it has a nice photo of the old Packer style unis.

Speaking of Winters, his Wayne St Warriors are ranked #9 in the initial D2 poll and are picked to win the GLIAC South. They appear to be loaded this year.

Does Pluto actually work anymore? It seems as if all he does is dig up old articles, rework them a little and get them printed. The guy is without any new ideas.
No he doesn't. The last article I read of his when he actually had an opinion was when he wrote this big article when the Tribe signed Alomar, saying it was a huge mistake. Robby was no good, spit on umpires, was going to be trouble in the club house. Now Alomar is in the hof and probably was half of the best middle infield I have seen in my lifetime. TP's opinions suck, he should stick to diggin up old stuff and redoing it.

One thing about opinions...every one can have one. But some are more highly regarded than others.

I can't believe Mount Union football hasn't given him an award for the countless articles he wrote about them while being paid by the AKRON paper while ignoring the Zips.

It's been a long time since Pluto won anything. It goes to show how lazy the guy has become and how bad his articles/ideas are now.

The Cleveland Journalism Hall of Fame? I didn't know one even existed.

Not only did he ignore the Zips, he was a contributor to the lack of adult view of the people around Akron about a D-1A football team. The Zips were always "the little engine who could" in his mind. If he was a more creative writer, he should have been writing about "the little engine who should". He never demanded more from the leaders of the Univeristy with articles pointing out how we should be better in football than we were.

It would be great to bring back these uniforms for home games.Much classier than the ugly all blue the zips wear now

Wow! At last I find someone who agrees with me! I never saw those kits in person -- was the yellow that light? The picture is the lightest shade of yellow this side of Oregon. Love it!

Lee sure could get the fans at the Rubber Bowl excited.

I'm from the Bill Belichick school, I would have my 800 mm Nikon Telephoto lens on that wrist band, and have a print out before kick off. Maybe I'll try that this year.

Is that Nick Sparks in the photo?

I'm 99.9% sure it is and it looks like he was still playing QB when the pic was taken.

New ideas?? He is a journalist and reporter. Not a product or software developer. What I want from reporters and journalists is to give me the unvarnished facts. I am will make my own opinions from the facts. The demise of unbiased journalism is the most discouraging development of the last 10 years.

As a opinion columnist...he gives his opinions without trashing anyone or flame throwing. Maybe the generation growing up with Howard Stern require more controversy...but I don't like it. In the most recent big event in Cleveland sports, the trade for Ubaldo Jimenez, he came out against it and gave his reason why. LOL Mount Union?? The BJ target market is Summit and Start counties. MU is in Stark county and has many local kids on the team. Why would he NOT write about them?? He was NOT the beat writer for the Zips so it would be unreasonable for him to promote them.

Just because you may have a new idea does NOT mean it is a good idea and one that anyone wants to hear.

For those who are only familiar with his columns, try reading his books. Loose Balls is a classic -- I have to wonder if he got a ghost writer! :D

+1 on that. And also "Tall Tales" .. they were great books because he was able to set the stage to the story, and let the characters (interviewees) tell the story directly. Both are must reads for basketball fans.

I'm not a pro ball fan anymore, but those are good books back into the history of the game.
