Lee Adams
A "radio host" on WKNR this morning smashed the Zips pretty hard. Said they had no chance in hell and would probably lost by over 70 pts. I think his name was Aaron? Not to mention he went on repeatedly bashing our program as the "worst" in the country. Apparently he thought that every D1, D2, and D3 team is better as well. Thankfully Tony Rizzo was quick to stand up for Akron and at least someone in the Cleveland media has our back. I rarely don't listen to WKNR but I found it interesting that the Aaron guy that was bashing Akron into the ground, is actually facing a suspension from the station due to an incident with a HS football coach. Classy Guy! Now I know most of the media would say that Akron has no chance. But I really don't care! We won't win, I know that but I just hope we show up to play! You are talking about Aaron Goldhammer. The guy is also a HUGE OSU basher. He is a puke and I would love to punch him in the face almost every time he opens his mouth. He isnt from Ohio and all he does is bash on every Ohio team regardless of sport. When fans start worrying about stuff like this do two things, 1) Don't listen to the show(Rizzo ain't much to brag on either in my humble opinion) and 2) Hope the Zips start winning. We have been pretty terrible as of late and before last year I would have told you Can't, but I think they are moving forward while I'm still not sure about our program. ZachTheZip
Three more players suspended for the Akron game! RB Jordan Hall, CB Travis Howard, S Corey Brown suspended for Ohio State's first game. Ohio State says the three took impermissible benefits of $300 or less at charity event earlier this year. Ohio State seeking reinstatement of players for rest of '11 but also is considering 'institutional sanctions' So Buckeyes now open without top 2 RBs, top WR, top LT, top CB, backup S, backup DE, backup LB, and backup OL. That's what you get keeping the same staff from a major NCAA scandal. They know the rules...as well as a 21 year old can understand a 450 page ncaa rule book. The ncaa is full of idiots for rules like this. It's hard to break a pattern of bad behavior all at once. Their previous coach didn't seem to think rule applied to him, so why would his former players? He was a great example for them.

Their previous coach didn't seem to think rule applied to him, so why would his former players? He was a great example for them. No disagreement with the first part at all. The rest is your bias and opinion. This happened a while back. These players have gone through about as many compliance meetings and lectures as they have practices. One of the players, Travis Howard, went to LF and told him this happened a while back. That is how this came to light. If you don't think this happens nearly everywhere, you are mistaken. The difference is that OSU is so damn paranoid right now, they self report everything. Does self reporting make everything ok? No, it doesn't. However, you don't read or hear about other schools doing it. As one guy on the Florida board said, 90% of DI schools don't want the NCAA snooping around their campus. That is why most rarely self report.

Captain Kangaroo
Marchese, a junior from Dublin Coffman High School, did not see any action last season. His only playing time came in 2009, when he had one kickoff for 38 yards. We had a solid kicker for about two consecutive decades. Then Igor mentally lost it...and we've been screwed ever since. I don't see how we scholarship a freshman kicker, then he gets beat-out by a walk-on Junior? I really hope our place-kicking isn't the Chinese Firedrill it's been for the past 3 seasons...but I have a feeling it will drive me to insanity yet again. GP1
Does self reporting make everything ok? No, it doesn't. Actually, under ncaa rules, self reporting is one of the best ways of not receiving any harsh sanctions. Cleaning house is the second best way. Are we really to pat osu on the back for self reporting everything? Wouldn't it be better if they just didn't break the rules in the first place? Sounds like their paranoia is justified. Like I said, when a culture is established, it is hard to change the culture. Self reporting is what they are required to do. Now that Tressel is gone, they can do the hard work of breaking the culture he created going back to when he was receiving written performance evaluations from his boss ten years ago for unacceptable compliance performance. It's going to be extremely hard work, but someone has to so it. I'd like to take this opportunity to wish the Zips well in their scrimmage against tosu tomorrow. Have the money wired directly to your account, don't take check...someone will probably lose it during the two hour trip from columbus to Akron. The one thing I noticed during the open practice was the trajectory of Marchese's placekicks versus the others. His ball doesn't necessarily go the farthest, but it gets in the air more quickly on a steeper angle of climb. Hopefully this mean no more of those FG attempts that go straight into both lines. But not all rules carry the same weight. Does everybody come to a complete stop at stop signs?? Does everyone use their turn signal making every turn and lane change?? Should those violation carry the same penalty as killing someone?? Riddle me this Batman....you now feel all rules should be followed or there should be penalties?? I thought you were the guy who did not have a problem with illegal’s breaking our immigration laws. Glad to know you got on-board.

I don't know if he has any distance. Perhaps we have a different long field goal kicker.

If Marchese is similar, I'm ecstatic. We need to be better than 50% on our field goals if we're to win any games this season. We don't have the offensive firepower to overcome a bad kicking game.
