akronzips71
Sorry, but anyone on this board could do a better job today. He has one play - Chisholm straight ahead. Takes NO risks. No gimmick plays. Nothing. I hope we go 1-11, because we might be looking at 0-

Blue & Gold
Hey, now. Let's see what the 2nd half holds (though I think the heat & Columbus' greater depth will make the 2nd half worse than the 1st.). 21-0 at the half after the attrocious season we just had? If real money were on the line, I would have bet that it would've been worse. Though I can't argue that I wish he would have gone for it on 4th down. But, maybe this is a sign of maturity that he's not going for broke int he 1st half and playing Columbus just like he's play any othet game - i.e., smartly? What do you have to lose? Right after we punted they drove the length of the field and scored. At least if we would have picked up the first down, we could have given our defense a little more rest. As bad as Brookhart was, I would rather have him right now. At least he had some imagination as well as some kahoonas.

zen
3 wins or less at the end of the season and I'll be right there with you. .500 or better in MAC play at the end of the season and I will be for giving him one more year. Firing him after one game is just crapping your pants as a reaction to one hiccup. No reason to be so reactionary now.

We wouldn't fire him after one game, we would be firing him after thirteen games, and in most of those he gave us a worse chance to win than if he were replaced by a turnip. Sorry, I'm not defending today's performance, but 5 years ago, Brookhart looked just as pathetic if not moreso in the blOSU game...screen pass, screen pass, screen pass, punt...blOSU shitty possession...screen pass, screen pass, screen pass, punt...blOSU shitty possession...repeat until halftime, with an Akron safety and a blOSU field goal thrown in there somewhere in the first half. Then it was screen pass, screen pass, screen pass, punt...Akron repeat until, thank Heaven, the game ended...with 2 blOSU td's and 1 FG thrown in there somewhere. Perhaps, but if you replaced him with a bowling pin the coaching outfit would fit better than they would on a turnip.
Dave in Green
Do we really need an "official" fire iCoach NOW thread when every football thread for the past year has been an unofficial fire iCoach NOW thread? By the way, the argument against Ianello is considerably weakened when it resorts to personal attacks on the man's appearance. I've met some of you folks on ZN.O, and, well, let's just say that our mirrors aren't telling lies. None of us is Hollywood material. Dave in Green
Maybe we all should hold off on this status of the coach thing til the end of the year. Way too logical. Where's your PRIMAL SCREAM, man? But seriously, today's performance did nothing to change the opinions of those who've already given up on Ianello, nor did it provide much encouragement to those who are still open-minded on the subject. I'll start formulating my opinion after two or three games against MAC-level competition. Realistically, that's all the UA football program has been capable of hanging with for a long time. The first step toward respectability is to start playing tough against the teams the Zips have a realistic chance to compete against. After that, maybe they can start playing more competitively against the tOSUs of the world.

Yea, what's the deal with that!?!? TW needs to pull him to the side and have a little talk about how we look on the sidelines. I can live with the glasses, but man, keep stuff out of your pants, get some assistant to hold your papers.

Big Zip
I think it is funny that the only thing I heard from anyone about the game yesterday was what a doofus he looked like on TV with his plays down his pants. Nobody I know expected them to even score so the only thing that was of any interest to them was how bad he looked. I even got two texts from people asking...how did this guy get the job. These are people who don't follow the program closely or at all...one was an OSU fan and the other a good friend living in Maryland. I've always thought he carried himself poorly on the sideline especially with his posture....my neighbor went to a few games last year and commented on the same thing, but when I watched the replay when I got home yesterday and saw him stuffing the plays down his pants even I was surprised by that move. GP1
when I watched the replay when I got home yesterday and saw him stuffing the plays down his pants even I was surprised by that move. I was wishing we could get a shot of him stuffing his plays down the toilet. There are a ton of out of shape coaches on TV. I'm always surprised by it since most of them work withing a two minute walk from some of the best workout facilities in the country. Zip_ME87
I just watched the replay again, prior to halftime...one of our assistants had his play sheet stuffed down the front of his pants, too. I hope this isn't the football coaches' dress code. I agree, Big Zip...it's pathetic that this is what it's come to...I expected so little that all I can comment on is that we could at least look professional and/or like we know what we're doing on the sideline. Turning around this program begins with the people on the sideline, and they don't even respect it enough to look respectable. I don't seriously mean this, but if this is the way that football is going to be at The University of Akron, then we should eliminate it. It's unfair to increase the burden on Jodi Kest, Kieth Dambrot, Caleb Porter and all of our other respectable coaching staffs to sell their programs to potential recruits because our football coaching staff makes us look like we're clueless. Lee Adams
Lets wait to see how they play against Temple. The team could really use a win. But if they can be real competetive against a good MAC opponent it will help them as well as the fans. 14th game of the Ianello regime will be big.
