akronzips71
What do you think the players of this team will tell there children about there experiences at the University of Akron?Well, the football players do get the cheerleaders. So the question is, what will Daddy AND Mommy be telling the kids?
InTheZone
I never once talked to a cheerleader when I was playing. I was much more interested in the female soccer players and vollyball players. Good breeding stock.

Hopefully our genes will combine to create some UberZips. And my kids will have no choice btw... if they are good athletes, they are going to be Zips. It seems like once most people leave here, they forget about where they came from, and go back to becoming fans of the "bigger" schools. Big Zip
I would argue that doesn't just go for athletes, but business people too. There are a lot of CEOs and other higher ups in Corporate America who graduated from Akron....there kids all end up somewhere else. It was good enough for them to get where they were, but not good enough for their kids. This at a time when the school is becoming more recognized for their academic endeavors too. On the flip side I think school choice is probably something the kid is going to ultimately make and given the choice to go somewhere else and have a Football team that is entertaining...goes to bowls etc. would certainly enhance the college experience over the $hit we get to watch week in and week out. GP1
What do you think the players of this team will tell there children about there experiences at the University of Akron?I'd like to reserve comment until the end of the year. This can actually be a very good topic with a lot of ground to cover.

This can actually be a very good topic with a lot of ground to cover.I agree. The actual point of his post was to place a dig on the Zips. But if the intent is stripped away...what is the program's affect on young kids?I'll speak for my son -- of the last 26 times he's worn his Akron jersey on Game Day, the Zips have lost 22 times. Kids like to win, and support winners. They take losses harder the the old guys. The Zips abject ineptitude on the football field really makes it tough on kids. They're unfortunately too young to drink it all away...
GP1
But if the intent is stripped away...what is the program's affect on young kids?I'm not sure what the intent was, but it literally is about what guys will tell their kids. It was also about the experience of the players themselves. This is a great topic and will be better after the season. It can go a lot of different ways and will be even better after an entire season.
cornbread
i do not get this subject. But maybe their kids have a better chance at a good sense of humor or learning humility from their Dads?
pattydark
This is my first post and I want to thank everyone--I started following this forum when MS15 came to Akron last year and I have learned a lot about Akron and the Zips from y'all but freely acknowlege that I am a rank newcomer and, even worse, a west coaster. However IMHO I think these players will tell their children about their glory days of playing college football and how they got themselves a college education, a work ethic and life long friends through their hardwork and athletic talents. I don't think that any one of these players has anything to be ashamed of. I want a win as bad as the next person but am unwilling to saddle these young men with some sort of legacy of shame. They came, they tried--so far they've fallen short--but they came and they tried. Anyway--nice to meet you all.

Hiring Rob iKnowNilo with a less-than-mediocre resume from a losing program is an example of one of those very bad choices.
